Vic, here is a better shot (sort of) of the layers. There's groves in the concrete then a sort of rubber mat with ball bearings (not really ball bearings but it looks like it),then plywood, then another rubber mat and then the chestnut....... the design is such that the threat of any water....salty or otherwise NEVER sees the flooring.

Absolutely stunning Peter!

A little of topic. Why did you go with radiant floor heating instead of using hydronic floor heating?

Thanks

Kevin

Peter, as you have leaked out, your back ground is "electric" and reviewing your 400 amp panel upgrade, plus all the other details you have put in to this incredible build.

I would like to know what you have implemented as far as safety from electrocution. I'm a bit of an outspoken advocate on this subject as it seams to be a very over looked aspect in this hobby, how so many reefers are out there taking a tank full of saltwater and filling it full of 120V devises with only a 15 amp breaker between them and a ground fault.

Sorry if this is off track, but so far it does look like you have all bases covered.

Ken

Ken I did say eclectic as noted. There is a huge volume of information coming on all the systems in the near future. I can tell you that the fish room is totally isolated from any other infrastructure when it comes to plumbing, electrical and HVAC. The fish room is almost like a house within a house. It is water proof and sound proof by design from scratch. All safety sytems I believe have been well thought out and planned to accomodate a very thorough review and audit. Any additional steps that may have been missed would be welcomed by me from any source to improve the safety standard to the highest level. I am intentionally trying to avoid touching on bits and pieces untill I can present a fairly well developed package.

Having said that, there are a number of questions I will be putting to the forum members to try and make sure that we end up with a result we can all be proud of.

The answer is long and complicated. I am a terrible typer...very very slow. For the time being lets just say this was the best solution to a number of issues. Originally there was a confirmed plan to use geothermal infrastructure that finally had to be abandoned. The details of that will be forth coming.

Sorry to jump the gun, I'll sit back and wait for the show....

there is nothing more a man can say but wow and look in wonder, your fish room, basement and tank are of what dreams are made. it is inspiring to someone like me that struggle just to hold a piece of this hobby in there home. please keep the photos coming and allow us to dream as u fulfill yours. it is simply beautiful the way you have set it up can not wait to see the water go in.

Peter, this build is truly inspiring. I started almost a year ago with my 20 gallon and boy am I paying for not doing my research. Although my tank is a mess I still love this hobby and I am actually in the process of putting together a 90 gal. Just to let you know I am using your advice and taking your lead on being disciplined and patient with everything. Thanks again for sharing not only your tank build but also your home with us. It is all truly beautiful.

Thanks ANC, Obviously you have been reading the fine print as well as the pictures and I am humbled by it. I hope that your persistance pays off and the quality of the result will double the benefit, in my opinion. Welcome to the journey.

Peter

Come on Peter, either you have the fastest builder in all of North America or your further along in this process than you lead on in an effort to torture us with anticipation.LOL. Beautiful home, stunning tank in the making can't wait for some shots of this bad boy filled and stocked. First Ching and now you, two of the best build threads ever put out. Thanks for the time and effort in taking us through the journey in a timely manner with lots of descriptions and pics.

Mind blowing Peter, I hope to see it in person some day :inlove: Great planning!

Thanks createyourown........you need a shorter handle, it takes me forever to type it!!!!!! I think there will definitely be an opportunity for a tour someday or at worst a seafood buffet.

Peter

Let's all go in together and buy Peter some "type as you talk" software.

I must say, that as far as your openness, willingness to learn from others, and cordiality is a tribute to Chingchai for sure, which was one of your stated goals from the very beginning, and I admire that.

The entire room is a vision, and deserves all the recognition it is getting. So often we think of the design of an aquaria being limited to the stand and/or canopy, but you have incorporated the entire surrounding space to create a wonderful ambiance. I love the attention to detail, like the lights under the tank. It's touches like that the make the space truly special. Top notch my friend, top notch. I must check on this thread 10 times a day just to see what you're up to and if there are any new pictures or better yet, a new chapter to enjoy! :bounce3:

Gerator

Gerator

To be honest I'd have to go look as I can't remember. I upgraded the power to the house from 200 amp to 400 amp then got the separate 60 amp panel for the aquaria. The panel came with the generator. It appears to be a very intelligent system providing a fair degree of comfort on top of a reasonably stable power grid except for 4 day power outages once a decade!!!!!

Peter

I'm the Project Manager for Peter's (Nineball) renovation. This is an old question on this thread now, but the generator is a Generac, 17KW, from Home Depot.

Amphetamines Huskerreef, Its hell on fish but incredible on builders. They haven't figured it out yet but as long as they keep asking for more water this thing gets done at light speed(no pun intended).

Thanks by the way, you are too generous as this would NEVER have happened if Chingchai hadn't had the courage to do it in the first place. Something about his build was soooo qualitatively different that it reached out, grabbed me and wouldn't let go. I have never been able to find his peer on this forum or any other.
