Very exciting to see some new pictures! :) On the topic of what LED units to try, I have been doing a lot of research, and the units at the top of my list currently are the AquaIllumination units. They use the CREE LED's and are modular. Also, they are compatible with the Profilux controller. Color rendering is controlled by percentage of white vs. Blue, and PAR is very high. - Kelly

Short update

Short update

It's been a long long day. Mr. Wilson, 4 brothers Grimm and I have been focused on getting the live rock into the tank. We have about one half the rock in the tank but not as much in place as we wanted. It was getting late and we had to make sure that the water was put in the tank to protect the 'live' rock. Clearly this is going to be a long journey. The brothers Grimm were incredible. I cannot say enough about their attitude to this project, their work ethic (my wife wants to adopt all four), and the quality of whatever work they want to undertake. Mr. Wilson continues to be a source of inspiration to us all. He had an excellent suggestion early in the day to set up a tripod and post one pic every hour till we were done. I took about a billion pictures but I could not find the time or the energy to post any of them. Tomorrow we will start very early to get as much done as we possibly can. I will be posting detailed photos of our progress soon.

I just read all 153 pages...what a journey and an inspiration to all salties out there! I just started my salt water tank 6 weeks ago and though I dont have any fish yet I already want a bigger tank! I only have a 20 gal tank ha! I dont think I realized how much work is required...thankful for RC! Thanks Peter and to everyone else for the advice, photos, comments, etc.

Everything on this tank is top notch and is first class I love how you kept the closed loops as I've told myself when I upgrade from my 125 to a 300 I will design in a closed loop system in mine and hide the outputs with rock. But one thing I would think to do I know you said no DIY solutions for the lights but why not buy 10 lumenarc reflectors 10 400 watt MH 10 Icecap ballasts some c-channel from lowe's in the industrial light section, some fastners, and some metal brackets and chain to hang them from the c-channel with. I can't see it taking more than a day to drill the holes in the c-channel and mount the brackets and fasteners and to hang the chain from them for the reflectors. Mount the bulbs in the reflectors and plug in the ballasts and lights and be done with it. I'd use the new 15k radium bulbs and look into LED's to supplement the tank for your actinics. You can plug all these in to a nice controller and get all the light sims you want that the modules that cost 2-3k a unit for and if the lights are fixed like the geismanns in the pics you posted you'll be restricted to placement since you'll have to work with the lights spread and not putting the light where you want and need it. If you used the c-channel you could devise an easy way to slide the lights to the left and right as needed. That's just my two cents for the lights, I still love everything you've done and are doing so far. Keep up all the good work and have fun at MACNA!

Check out page 1 of this guys build thread. I think you could really utilize this type light rack/design for your tank. When I go with my 300 I will be using this exact same design basically. (3) lumen arc reflectors (3) radium 14k or 18k and 6' of T5's or VHO's haven't decided. When I start to build my canopy on my 125 I am going to use this same design to house (3) 250's and 4 3' VHO actinics.

Peter. You wake up so early.
Just let your crew out of the tank.
The space is too tight for him.
Or I can say he is too big.
Working outside the tank should be more convenient.

No breaks until its over........We are removing the water, once again to do the next phase. This is going to be another looong loooong day, I can feel it.

This is one of the best builds I have ever seen. Wish there was more detail on the pumps and such but great build.

Has anyone seen Mr. Wilson lately? Would like to know where he got that Epo Putty.

Keep up the great build I love it.

If you read back quite a bit there is all the info you need on the pumps and the epo. They special ordered both from overseas, the epo putty was a special order from Thailand I believe.

So i guess you didn't read my post earlier...? I know your busy I just felt that the MH and LED combo would be the simplest and get the most light into your tank for corals.
