Coral Tank from Canada (1350gal Display Tank)

Perhaps I missed it, but has the process of disguising the in-tank plumbing been documented anywhere? I'd like to know the method... (if I did miss it, I apologize for what should have been unnecessary clutter, and profusely thank anyone who can direct me to the original information.)

Its three parts artwork and one part science but I will let Mr. Wilson answer this one. This is one of the core strengths of his multidiciplinary array of skill sets.

it was easier to build the foundation of the structures sitting in the tank. of course using the openings on the top of the tank for head space. It wasnt as unpleasent or uncomfortable as it looked. Those pictures did make it look very akward.

I actually used a newly purchased garden hose (still freshly rolled up) as a seat which worked very well :dance: this kept me from having to kneel or crouch down on the egg crate which seemed to leave red, blistering, painful checkered patterns on the skin. :thumbdown

after the foundation was put in place and secured (using the magnificent Epo Putty!) Yes, we did work from outside of the tank.

The aquascaping should be complete by the end of the day tomorrow :bounce1: with pictures quick to follow

Mr Wilson when you coming to South Africa to help with my tank. Very interisting how the closed loop is installed. Is the eggcrate going to stay at the base, wont dirt get stuck in there.

The eggcrate stays in the base to help secure the rock to, then sand is poured over it. You are able to create really tall and wide structures that look like they have a tiny base, but really there is the giant "foot" of eggcrate attached and held by the sand.

Nice fish room shot. I love the stainless sink and recessed lighting. Can you show a picture of the dam that you've installed to prevent floods from exiting the fish room? Did you raise or cut the door?

This is a great build. If I can offer one suggestion is not to strive to duplicate a specific aquascape but give it a life of its own. Mimicking an aquascape rarely turns out correct and sometimes looks forced. Using general concepts of others aquascape is fine but I would let your aquascape evolve naturally as every tank is different.

That was the whole point, to pay respect to the 3 or 4 best (most inovative or classic) reef-scapes. I don't think that Peter aims to make duplicates but rather be inspired by to a point where someone can say that mount is Ching's style and that mount is who ever else he has selected

Although I am more of a free form fan (sort of let the rock show how it should look) I still love the Ching style and can't wait to see how it all turns out

But before I do I would like anyone who has posted in the last little while to know that I will respond to each and everyone when I can get a few minutes of downtime. Life here is hectic with a great deal of activity going on all over the house. Two painters staining the garage doors, Two home theater experts installing whole home 'stuff', two folks in the gardens, two in the fish room and six of us on the tank.

In general, the bottom of the sand bed is static (still) so the 1/2" eggcrate has no impact on detritus. Eggcrate is only needed for tall narrow rock structures.
