shawn or anyone else

i was just spreard by a longspine black seaurchin,i dont think i was stung,as i only felt the pain.
the skin was penetrated as there was blood,so i squueazed more blood,i then put my hand under running hot water till i could not take it anymore.
then washed my hands under dish soap.then poured rubbing alcohol on the wound, its not bleeding but throbbing,i do blieve the stingers are not the spines.
i have done this procedure for anenome stings, but not sure of sea urchin

thanks

vic

I almost lost my hand and arm from a longspine sea urchin sting.

Bottom line---make sure you have a up to date tetanus shot. I didn't

Here is a set of pictures taken over 12 hours after I was jabbed by a large sea urchin:

A Møøse once bit my sister...

No realli! She was Karving her initials on the møøse with the sharpened end of an interspace tøøthbrush given her by Svenge - her brother-in-law - an Oslo dentist and star of many Norwegian møvies: "The Høt Hands of an Oslo Dentist", "Fillings of Passion", "The Huge Mølars of Horst Nordfink"...

Wow thats rough... I always wanted to buy a Lionfish for my predator tank. Although I have always been so afraid of the sting. I know most say it just hurts really bad for a few days. I have also read though the more times it happens the more likely you are to develop an allergy. I don't want to be that one guy who dies... not worth it at all. Just so I do know though, would those gloves protect you from a Lionfish? probably not right because the sting of a lionfish is like a needle and it would easily pierce through rubber right?

I can tell you from experience. Getting cut by a Tang scalpel is much more painful for longer than a lion fish sting. At least it was in my case. I think it had something to do with VERY hot vinegar water on the lion fish sting right away though. :)

I have heard about some being allergic to lion fish stings as well. But don't know what the reaction is.

I have been a long time lurker. With that being said, I wanted to state my thanks for all that this thread has been and will continue to be to this great community. Thank you for the informational transfer which you all have given to those less knowledgeable. Happy Reefing!

Fish for the Mars Bars

Fish for the Mars Bars

These fish will be in the Mars Bars for at least 8 weeks before making it to the display tank. Some of the fish will remain in the mars bars either because they can't mix with the intended community or because they will form the base of a fish room secondary display tank.

I will defer to Mr. Wilson for names and details of the selection so far.........

Congratulations on the set-up, the stuff dreams are made of, great to see documented builds like this step by step, never would have considered a Mars system for quarantine, makes sense given the size of your system, looking forward to watching this come to life

The Book

The Book

About a zillion pages ago there was some discussion about Mr Wilson's book. As a complete noob, I've really appreciated his clear and informative comments, so I did a cut-and-paste on (most) of his posts on this thread. It runs to 64 pages - not quite a first draft manuscript, but maybe halfway there. I tried to offer him a copy via PM in the hope it would encourage him to finish the draft, but apparently he's better as keeping his tanks clean and tidy than his inbox, which is full.

I know even less about publishing than I do about reef tanks, but you might want to think about this as a business modeL: http://www.howtobrew.com/ It's a complete guide to home brewing on a free advertiser supported site, supplemented by hard-cover sales to luddites who think this internet fad is never going to last.

Thank you very much gnorman. Welcome to the community. I expect this will continue to be a learning environment for all of us. Best practices are never satisfied with the status quo.........

Efforts like this kind of support with a generous helping hand continues to be a hallmark attribute of this thread. Well done my friend, excellent initiative. I am determined to get Mr. Wilson to publish that book but he keeps getting distracted by this build. Try sending the doc to me and I will pass it on. Also thanks for the link, I will take a look after I get some sleep.
