Peter, AMAZING build. Ive been skimming for days trying to get it all in. I couldnt read it straight through day by day because i was so excited to see how far youve come! I cant believe what you and your team have put together!

I saw something a while back about a book my Mr. Wilson. Is that a joke or is he really writing/did he write one? From everything ive read here, it seems like hed write one worth the read! I havent really seen much out there thats actually a good read.

Thanks for the kind words. I haven't sat down and put anything together yet, but I have over 5000 posts on aquarium forums as notes :) The book will come and it will focus on all the stuff you can't find in the current books out there. Don't get me wrong, there are some great reefkeeping books on the shelves, but I am hoping that mine will be the kind that gets wet and dog eared while you work on the tank. I want to see beer bottle rings on it, spilt bindings and some notes. :)

Hey, I've got lots of all of those. Just remember, I called first dibs on editoring/idiot-proofing.

Ive read a few, and I really wasnt impressed. I can tell from just your quarantine explanation on here that yours would be something definately used in the way you describe and a welcomed addition to any reefers fish room.....i imagine thats where one would use it the most!

Peter, Shawn, can you tell us where you stand right now? I understand that you have a second mangrove tank to set up, plus all your dosers and filters and controllers, etc. but are you actively putting stuff together right now, or waiting for parts, or watching TV or what? Thx for any update you might care to share.

Sure but I get the first copy!!! If I can recall correctly and this thread is proof. The book was my idea. Now now Shawn don't come on here and say you were planning it all a long. I brought it up in this thread and PM you prior to this thread. :bum:

Yeah, but I've been using the "I'm writing a book" excuse for not being productive for that past two years :)

If you guys are planning on harvesting that cheato any time soon send me a pm where i might be able to pick some up from you .Would greatly appreciate that and some more tank pics..thanks

Speaking of refugiums.........ours, not mine yet.....ours is running with a water level that is half way between the two exit ports with the top port totally exposed and the bottom siphoning. How do I raise the water level in the refugium?

By the way the skimmer is producing enough dense sea foam to float the Titanic. It's never worked better and its working better than any I have seen in the past.

The anemone has gone walk about but is still on the arch.

I topped up the sump to the tape marker. it wasn't too low yet but it would have been by the morning I think.

I think it's easier for you to drop by and get the cheato anytime (we are throwing out a bucket every week) and you can see the tank for yourself. PM me with the best time for you and I'll shoot my coordinates back.

You need to increase the flow through the refugium by turning up the DC pump control on the skimmer. It's at 1750 RPM now, but we had it at 1850 earlier. Keep turning it up until the water level is just starting to touch the upper strainer.

1790 and monitoring....................

Thank you.

Hey! get in line, Shawn was all over me asking questions and exchanging ideas 4 years ago, I asked him then if he was a cop or writing a book, now I know he isn't a cop!

Mr. Wilson,

A note as to a tip you posted a while back: I tilted the MH light on the 50 gallon back away from the front glass about 5 degrees or so from level. I have not had to clean the glass in 4 weeks. Now, in all fairness, I have also increased skimming to be more wet, but I think your tip is the main reason for the cleanliness. I will do this on every tank with point source lighting from now on.

Thanks!

If you don't want to increase the flow through the refugium and just raise the level, you could put a ball valve (or gate valve) on the output of the bottom port. Then you simply partially close the valve until the current flow (1750) is too much for the bottom port to handle and it will require the top port to handle the rest. This is basically the same concept as the silent durso's that people build in their overflow, just think of your refugium as a big overflow. :)

Now, if you DO want more flow through the fuge than the afformentioned 1750, by all means, crank that baby up to 1800+ then sit back and !

By the way, do you have a picture of the anemone? I don't think I every saw a picture.

Here is our 'little friend' before his walk about.

The skimmer is at 1780 and the flow is perfect. Your suggestion is a good one and I will discuss it with Mr. Wilson. He and I are going on a field trip tomorrow to some LFS in the Toronto region.

Can you make the book reef safe? I'm sure mine might accidentally end up in the aquarium.
