Ok obviously with branching corals I just frag but what do u do with encrusting stuff. The only thing I can think of is to kill part of one with kalkwasser paste. Any better ideas out there?

You can still frag an encrusting coral. But if that is not a possibility I thing a better option would be to cover up the part encrusting coral you want to prevent from growing with a rock or something so that it does not receive light you can super glue the rock down onto the coral so it will stay.

Yes I know I could frag but attached to large rocks at the bottom of tank so can't get the rock out to frag

Purple coral putty ...... Done !!!

Cover the encrusted part with the putty. I did it and the purple putty looks very nice, like a section of the rock cover with coraline algae.
