coral warfare...

Anyone else notice this periodically? My aquarium city millepora has now decided to attack my purple formosa.. So now I am getting some stn in the affected area.

Don't you wish they could all just get along....

Now I'll probably have to move the formosa..

This mille is soo aggressive it is also killing a baby pocillorpora that decided to grow too close to it...

I hate moving stuff :( ugh

how can you tell if there's warfare going on? and how close is too close? i hope my sps frags are spaced out enough...:O

when the base or whatever part of the coral that is close turns white :) It won't RTN, but sometimes it starts STN. The coral sends out enzymes that it wants to take over the space, and stings it and whoever is stronger is the victor...

why dont you just clip back the milli a bit, stick the frags on plugs/disks/rock and make new milli babys to sell.....

we need more aquaculture in this hobby.

Already done... But when the stn starts sometimes it stops, and sometimes it doesnt... I have a galaxea that stung my pink birdsnest, and the whole colony stn'd and didnt stop, so I fragged the whole thing now it is in 3 huge colonies all over the tank.

I am working on my frag tank right now, I have a set of tek t5 lights and going to turn my fuge into a fuge/frag tank. I have a mag 7 pumping in and will have a mj 1200 and 400 stirring things up on the top, and make a frag tray out of eggcrate and make the brackets to hold it out of acrylic..

Now if my 14 month old will just let me work....
