Coralife Cone Skimmer 150g question

I'm setting up my 90 RR after a 5 year hiatus. I'm trying to setup my sump with the proper height baffles for the skimmer section. The Coralife rep I spoke to said the recommended operating depth is between 5" and 12". How useful!!
Can anyone using one of these skimmers tell me what depth they've had success with?

It may take a bit of dialing in to figure it out properly. If you are set on that skimmer look at getting a skimmer stand. They are adjustable for height. This way you can set the baffle high and raise the skimmer to a height it works best.

The proper depth for most coralife products is between the bottom and top of your trash can.. Place it there and all will work out just fine ;)

In that case, Cora life skimmers are not good. I got one for free with a tank someone had that was giving away. It was junk and I never used it. You can go skimmerless or I would save up and buy one in a few months. You won’t need to run it during the cycle anyway.

The local LFS sold those things as the next great skimmer when they first came out. I was NEVER able to get one to work properly - could never get it adjusted. :worried:

:lmao:

this has been my experience as well. i had that same skimmer and was using it in the HOB configuration. i couldn't get it to stop overflowing.

i ended up giving it away to a friend for free. he said there were some mods he found on the internet that made it run better, but it didn't last too long for him.

if you're still intending on using it, i would start off deep, and then if it's not performing as you like, then try raising it up.

Uncle99, do you remember what depth you had it at?

Sorry, I hang it. I use no traditional sump.
Once broken in and tuned, seems to work fine, maybe I am just lucky.
Running 24-7 for years now, actually when I upgraded, I did not change this skimmer cause its doing what it is supposed to do and was already over sized.
