"Coralife" Super Skimmer 125g help

Alright so Im using a Coralife Super Skimmer rated for 125g tank. It is currently mounted on the back of my tank untill I get my sump setup. The problem is the "Bubble Production Diffuser".

The output tubing goes in there exactly as shown in the instructions but its still unleashing a huge amount of microbubbles into my tank. There are two filters in the diffuser, a white filter pad at the very bottom, and a black sponge one thats about three inches thick that the output tubing goes through. The pre cut hole in the black sponge is slightly larger than the tubing and allows quite a large amount of water to spill over the top into the tank. This is what is producing the most amount of bubbles. Mind you the top of the diffuser is only about 1/4 inch above the water line(per the directions) but the bubbles just keep spilling over.

Any suggestions as to how to reduce these bubbles would be greatly appreciated.

I don't remember what the directions told you to do exactly, but I had to raise my return tube up off of the white pad by a good inch to inch and a half to get it under control. Also you should try adjusting the height of your bubble diffuser up and down to try to find the sweet spot. Sadly bubbles in the tank is an issue w/ most hang on the back setups.
