Coraline algae scrapings needed!

If you are "plagued" by an excess of coraline algae, the next time you do any scraping let me know. I have a 12 gal that has been running 1.5 yrs with no coraline. I have tried seeding it with little pieces of coraline covered rock without success. I used to have a 90 gal and had to scrape big sheets of the stuff off! Willing to pay a nominal fee for your trouble. Live in E. Mesa but can travel anywhere within reason.
Thanks

LOL i wish i had your problem of not having to scrap the glass of it.. I probably live to far to give you my scrapings..

Coralline needs steady parameters and time to grow. It sounds like your tank has been established enough time for it to grow. My guess is that your 12 gallon tank is tough to keep parameters constant or your CA and MG levels are to low. Even if you get Caroline from another tank, it may not grow if the other issues are not addressed.

+1 after getting my MG up everything stabilized and coraline growth took off.

I'm doing a major scraping in the next couple of days and your welcome to the results but I agree with other posts that it may not help your problem.

Stolireef,
I would really appreciate the coralline scrapings, especially any larger pieces that you might have. I am pretty fanatical about water parameters so I am not sure what the "missing link" might be. I would not be able to get up that way until Saturday, so let me know what your plans are.
Thanks

I use to wish and hope for coralline, waited and waited; now I have it in, on and around all my tanks, growing on rock, glass, power heads, plumbing, kitchen sink, ceiling, windshield......:)
I will also be scraping this week, I'll try to salvage some of the scrapings for you.
Will let you know.

You shouldn't need to get scrapings. I can give you some but you can't get it to grow any faster without strong water flow and stable Alk and Ca levels. But IMO water flow is the number 1 key to good coraline algae growth. If you want it on the rock, point a powerhead directly to the rock for a month or two and it should be nice and purple and pink.

Use a preferable type of salt in quality. I use (coral pro). Do bi-weekly water changes. Have good water flow. And slightly intense lighting. You can supplement it with purple up of some sort but be careful not to add too much as algae can skyrocket. If that happens increase to 20% water change per week till under control.

This tank was started with Marco's dry rock so no initial coralline. I use ESV salt, an AC 70 and MP10 so flow is good. Weekly water changes of 25% and near 0 nitrates and phospates. All other parameters sre textbook. I have tried Purple Up with a couple of small coralline covered rocks without success. My plan is to remove my rock and heavily sprinkle a bunch of crushed coralline scrapings all over and in the rock. Quickly place rock back in tank, turn flow way down for a week or so. I wiil also place larger scrapings on rock surface and hope for the best. Anyone with some larger scrapings please let me know and I will pick up ASAP.
Thanks

I've had the same problem until I got my alk cal and mg more stable..I started with the same rock and it turned green first then coralline is coming in now..everything must be stable for it take off

Same experience. My rock usually turns brown or green first then purple. As already mentioned, high quality salt mix helps. I use red sea coral pro.

Calcium is 440, Magnesium is at 1350. I test every weekend and could not imagine parameters being any more stable! ESV is considered by many to be one of the best salt mixes out there. My theory is if there are no freefloating spores of coralline in the tank, there is nothing to grow and multiply.
Thanks

Well, so far, apparently it's easier to get cocain than coralline! Stopped at Circle K to get a cool drink and a guy showed me 2 little baggies he had for sale. I said no thanks but do you have any coralline? He just gave me a weird look and walked out. True story!!! Anyone doing a little scraping soon?
Thanks
Bob

Trying to keep my request alive on here! Seems that everybody is
"plagued" by it but me. Still hoping for some coralline scrapings.
Thanks
Bob

Still desperate for coralline scrapings! Would really appreciate if you guys (or gals) would keep me in mind.
Thanks

You can come by my place and grab some. Haven't got to my back wall or the sides yet and the bare bottom is covered. I live on the NW corner of McClintock and Elliot. I'll be home after 5pm. PM me if you are still interested, and I will give you directions.

Jason,
I really appreciate your offer but I can't get over your way until Sat. Or Sun.. Working 12hr days tomorrow and Fri.. Please let me know if that's possible.
Thanks
Bob
