coraline algae

Ive had to move my tank several times. Most of the rock was just base rock. At one point my tank had low light. I have a 75 with a nova extreme pro fixture. I use reef crystals for salt. Will the coraline reappear by itself or do I need to seed it with new coraline? Its been almost a year and havent seen any coraline.

give it a few with the new lights , you can use some purple up that will kick it in the rear a bit ...

yes it can and will. dose with some "purple up" it will promote coraline to start growing . if you can find someone who has a chunk of rock that has coraline on it and get it in your tank , i have a little chunk that is covered you can have

Murph

find a nice peice of coraline algea rock and place it right infront of a powerhead. the spors will spread coraline quick. once you get your cal levels in line you should start seeing it grow as well

Coraline does not need high light .... I grow it in my calcium reactor from the flouesent lights on the ceiling ....lol like frost said get you levels in check and itll come ........

Something's not right as you should be seeing some growth by now. Like Sean said, it doesn't need much light. If fact, under really bright light, it will fade out.

I would take a close look at Ca, Mg and Alk levels. Once they are in check it can take 2-3 months for coralline growth to start. However, once it does, it flourishes. If they are and have been in check, you may want to seed your tank with a couple of pieces of coralline covered rubble from someone else's tank.

Not sure where you are located but I am sure I have a couple pieces to spare.

I find alk to be the most important part for coralline to grow well. If all of those params are good then of course like everyone else has said you need to seed. If you don't want anymore rock in your tank though... You can get some clippings from someone. Just have them take a knife or something and shave some coralline into a cup with some tank water... then just dump it in your tank and you'll be good to go. Dripping kalk also will help get it going too. At night when your PH is low dripping Kalk will keep it up and jump start the night time growth cycle. Also remember that there are many many colors and growth forms of coralline.. not just the purple that we usually have. Some are green, red, purple. oragne and I'm sure there is more. Good luck Oh and also you'll notice that it will grow on plastic/acrylic and rock before anything else.

the best way i got it to grow quick i went to aquatic tech in columbia station and i asked for some corline scrapings and she got a bunch from differnt tanks and i would say no more than 2 months it was covering the back of my glass.just make sure when ya get it break it up in the tank to seed the tank.

i know the cause of the hair algea, it's night nutrience in my tank because i am using tap water instead of ro. i just pulled the ro maker off my old tank but not sure how to hook it up to a regular facet with no threads?
