coralline algae quick question.

I have a bunch of rock that was taking from an established reef. I let it dry in the sun for over a month, and bleached. I cured it for a week when I was ready to start the cycle on my tank. The rock had a bunch of what I thought was dead coralline algae on it (mostly red).
When I added the rock I also added 2 new pieces of dry rock to the tank. Its been about 2 weeks and I have noticed little red spots of coralline algae on my new pieces of rock. Does coralline algae not die? Will it start to grow again so I wont have to add any pieces of live rock to get coralline algae on my rock?

Thanks guys!

Coraline algae absolutely does die and a lot quicker than a month. Sounds like you'll have fun trying to figure out where it came from. Hehe.

Sounds like you're not shooting for much biodiversity, eh?

I have noticed saltwater organisms of all kinds are very resilent and not as sensitive as thought. It's amazing how you may have assumed that all was dead , but it is possible that deep within the rock there was enough of a pocket or trap for some to stay alive.

The other question i have is , Are you sure it's corraline algae and not cyano?
