Corals of the World - Orlando TBRC props

Wow! I had NO idea how much some corals can cost! I went to Corals of the World in Orlando today and they had a frag that was worth and estimated $8,000! This thing was no more than 2 inches X 2 inches!

The store had an excellent set up! 300 gallon reef tank with Crazy lights! The were employing a different strategy. There was no live sand in the tanks. Totally bare on the bottoms and they purposely overfeed. Their live stock and coral look amazing!

BTW: The store's resident expert gave kudos to the TBRC! He said that the club is one of the most active and organized in the area. Orlando would be lucky to have one like it there!

I think you mean World Wide Corals. But I like that name Corals of the World.

You should ask them how much that display tank next to it retails for. They have a 200g Elos rimless tank there.....stunning and almost $6,000 for just the tank by itself.

No coral would be worth that kind of money if somebody wasn't willing to buy it. Just wait for it to circulate for a while. Just like we are seeing some of the chalice prices falling like crazy. Not too long ago they were getting 15/polyp for Tubbs blues. Now you can barely give em away.. lol

Yeah Tom no doubt that Elos tank is TIGHT!! :) Love the look.

TBRC is really a great club. I think it has a LOT to do with who's steering the ship ;)

i agree it is pretty crazy. I have a feeling they are not selling many. I've already seen a lot of coral frags coming way down in price. I'm sure it has a lot to do with the economy.

as "xx" coral becomes less rare and more available, the price will fall.

but like anything, rarity, uniqueness, or other special attributes lead to higher prices vs. other products. It's just like any other business.

Can't fault them for trying to make money. They've got a lot of overhead to cover. They're not in business to cut cost-deals to hobbyists!

Absolutely agree...but some places try to go overboard with it. A 'desired coral' for hundreds of $$ per polyp? If someone is willing to pay the price, then all the power to them. I won't be one of them though. lol Like others have said, wait it out and the price will drop like a rock.

I really like WWC, they are pricey, but talk about eye candy! They have pretty good deals every now and then. We picked up some $5 frags during one of their big events and they have grown into some really nice pieces.

Hes probably talking about there colony of My miami or Crazy Fox more then likely he asked how much a frag is they said 900 so he did the math because if I remember correctly there colony has 9 eyes but if you bought the whole piece they would sell it for much less lol When Jason fox was there he was selling a 6 eye mini colony of My Miami for 1400.

But to WWC credit they have some stuff that not to many people in the Country have lol some colonies in there 300 are not only extremely rare but extremely huge

I can think of a local store that does try to cut cost and help out the hobby rather than trying to make loads of money off of it. Lets call it Fish and other (prefix derived from the greek ikhthus meaning fish) stuff

Let's not kid ourselves. While said shop is a great place to do business, they have a family to support, and frankly, family comes first! I'll continue to support said shop.
