corals that will be illegal to own in the near future

Yeah I read this a while ago.. I still feel that the aquarium trade is a drop in the ocean compared to climate change..

Maybe with all the climate change people will be encouraged to keep captive coral syatems and we will all look like heros for preserving these fantastic creatures.

I believe the climate will continue to get warmer.

If the corals cannot adapt, they will have to move either north or south depending on which hemisphere they reside in.

Otherwise, they are like a fish in a bucket and time keeps ticking until the water evaporates. Protecting the bucket does absolutely nothing.

I agre with keeping them in the home aquarists to propagate.... If need be donate frags of them to be put back in the reefs.

I wonder what they would require hobbyists to do if it became illegal to keep coral species that we all keep? How would someone handle that?

You would more than likely well have to surrender them to Fish and Game.
My guess!

IMHO, surrendering corals to Fish & Game would be functionally equivalent to killing them outright.

Totally agree.. Unless they were going to a place like the academy of science it would be a good chance of death..

I think it will just make the price go up and be alluring to some and create a black market like certain species of fish in the FW world..

My guess is they will just halt all harvesting from the reefs and anything in the trade is there to stay and aquaculture will be our only way to get new pieces off the list or coral in general.

They should use the hobby as a way of preservation. No way to know if the hobbiest is capable of caring for them though so it would never work..
