corals turning white & dieing

Just had a small pink birds nest coral that was growing rapidly in my tank start turning white on the tips & within 3 days was dead.

Ph has been on a roller coaster ride for a few weeks until I reworked the skimmer. Now it is running from 7.9 to 8.1. Temp holding between 80 & 82 degrees F. Calcium has also been swinging with the ph. Currently @ 340. DKH between 9 &K 12.

Has this instability been the cause? Is this a disease?

instability in the tank can cause problems with corals.

How were the other parameters? nitrate, nitrite etc..

I'd try to stabilize everything as much as possible if it wasn't something else in the system that caused this.
