I have two of the 400watt ones. They fire up every time.
I have the 14k bulbs, and like the color. The only thing I don't
like is the ballast fans are loud. Don't know if the 250's are the same or not? But for the price they are a nice kit. The reflectors
they come with work well too.

I'm just setting up my 72g tank and I have the 250w ballasts. The fans make noise, but I haven't heard any other ones to compare. My ballasts are under the tank next to the sump and I can't hear them over the skimmer and return pumps.

I just bought a pair of the 250W kits at my local LFS for an awsome price but my ballasts are blue. They are still in the box and I plan on getting them up this weekend.

twkenny, why did you replace them???

tangman99, are those electronic? Do they have a on/off switch? Mine don't have on/off switches, but I guess it doesn't really matter since they'll be on timers.

I had 2 BlueWave ballasts and one Coralvue over my 125. All 250 watt electronics.
A friend had a single BlueWave on a prop tank and offered to swap so I could have 3 of the same. I also had a reefoptix reflector that I could use with the BlueWave and not with the CV, unless I modded the reflector/base connector. The Bluewave/reefoptix stuff all connects nicely with plugs.
Like I said, no problem with it...the only thing I noticed was a SMALL amount of interference on my TV that went away when I went to the BlueWave.

That dosen't look like a electronic ballast in the pic. It looks like a magnetic ballast.

I have the coralvue 400 W electronic ballast on my tank. They have no fans and are quiet. They are red and are the newest version. Even the older electronic ballast I have from them dosent look like the pic.

As for performance, they work great. I have 20K coralvue bulbs in two of their pendants and a Hamilton 14K in the third pendant. I like the 14K better, it has more white in it and is brighter.

I also have a 150 DE 14L phoeinx and it's way too blue. even moreso than the coralvue 20K's.

OK, guess they changed.

Mine is red and if you pull the end off, the electronics inside are completely encaspulated in a potting material. Also my box is smaller and has no cooling fan. It runs a 400W DE MH bulb.

I had a cooltouch lighting system before that was a magnetic ballast and it was in a box similar to the one in the pic.
