corky's fingers...where can one get these???

Corky sea finger aka dead mans fingers. I have a decent size one in my tank, but i had to collect mine after a storm ripped it off the reef down here. Its absolutly beutiful with tons of big polyps out.... You will probably never see one in a store.... I think its illegal to collect them directly from the reef, thats why i found mine in the surf after a storm.

I just got one of these myself, about 8" tall with 4 branches. One of my favorite peices, almost always out. They're kinda ugly in a cute way, so knobby and akward looking. I'm in Canada and they seem readily available here.

Could one of you post a picture of yours, if not too much trouble. I did a search but found nothing. Interested in seeing what these look like. Thanks.

Smaller polyps and encrusting. I think they are more similar to gsp than xenia. It's hard finding much info on these...

Couldn't tell ya, i dont test or dose for iodine. Seems to be doing well so far, gets taller and bushier every time i get back from a few days out of town. If anyone has any long term experience with these pls speak up.

Ryanqk: checking in on the pic to see the differences.

Ephraim: I was told that the xenia and mushrooms needed high doses of iodine. So you don't use any.... what do you feed?

I saw one at my LFS, but didn't look like either pic posted here. It looked like GSP, but a tan color and without the "stars" on the tips. For lack of a better term, it looked like short, tan sea grass.

Someone of three are wrong, but I have no idea which ones.

xenia and mushrooms dont really eat. We have both..in an abundance, and never dose our tank with anything. they are both going out of control. THey are photosynthetic

The reason you saw a flat form is that the corky sea finger is a encrusting coral and will put up stalks (fingers) from the mat. They are hard to find in LFS in that form however

the classic is getting a corky sea fingers climbing up a sea ribbon
It's a 2-fer, but you have to frag the sea ribbon to get it away from the corky fingers. I still have my corky fingers. It mostly encrusts and occasionally sends up a thick branch.

that dark photo looks like some kind of gorg. the tentacles are thin and smooth. Look at your Xenia closer to see the side frills or whatever they are called. also notice the white center dots
right there, this tells me it is GSP or briarium, or some other closely related one.
