Cosmo's 75G Build Thread

BT - I have read some reviews and have had some people tell me personally that they had good/better experience with the american engine model. So I figured, what the heck, let's give it a shot. I suppose there is always something a little better, I just drew the line there. Live and learn.

Re: Mod G2. I wouldn't know how to do it, nor what it would accomplish; do tell.

I will post an OOB picture of the sump tomorrow.

Its relatively easy,& the benefits are much better skimming.

Here is a link with some of the mods.

I'll look into that mod blk. Here are some pictures of the refugium/protein skimmer:

I only had a can Red Bull for perspective.

So, pretty much everything is in. A few, very generous local members, have offered to help me set this up. I need to go pick up the tank/stand. I think I will order the RK2, along with some other misc things (aqua gloves, another heater for backup, etc).

oops, gotta run, I'll finish this later.

RK2 question

RK2 question

so, one question about the ReefKeeper 2. If the heaters have their own sensors, and the chiller has it's own sensor, why would I hook them up to the RK2? isn't that redundant?

RK2 can shut your heater off if it sticks, Also, with a rk2, you can program it to turn a fan on if it gets to hot first, then chiller. You might find you don't even need a chiller.

Come to think of it, why do you have one? You don't live in a very warm climate. I have fans that turn on if my tank gets too hot from my lighting Like 83. The rk2 also is set to turn the lights off if it goes above 86.

The reasons I got it is bc the tank will be in the hottest room in the house. Especially in the winter. For some reason, this room is usually in the low 80's, when the rest of the house is in the high 60's. Crazy I know. I'm looking into blocking the hot air vent to almost nothing to help with that. I bought the chiller bc the lady who sold me the lights said I would need it with those, and I believed her. Hope I was right....

Sounds like I can hook everything up without the chiller and see if it stays cool enough.

You will need the chiller i have 2 150's on my 75,& it runs at 80 with a fan on the sump.Without the fan it goes to 82-83.

k, ordered the RK2, should be here tomorrow. Got the Tank and the stand as well. Will post pics of all tomorrow. Wed is the the big day. (finally).

A few problems

A few problems

So, I get the stand and I try to put the fuge in it.....NOPE, WON'T FIT.

So after playing around with it for a while, I took the doors off of the stand and...

Yay. I'll put the doors back on later today, once I'm done setting up the WHOLE DANG THING.

Here's a pic of my tank with my boxer looking at me strangely...

Bad news

Bad news

well............couple of problems.

One of the T5's was broken in two, they are sending me a new bulb.

Bigger problem is that the fuge had a leak in it. First flood is now behind me. It was my fault for not testing it out before everything was connected. Rookie mistake....I must say that I have read a million times that you should do a water test, but just slipped my mind in the excitement. They are sending me a new fuge WHICH I WILL TEST AND RE-TEST.

Well, the tank is set up with sand, LR and base rock. At least my tank can cycle in the meanwhile.

As soon as the sand clears up a bit. I'll post some new pictures.

So good day, bad day, you pick...I'm kinda bummed...

here's what up

here's what up

So, asides from having to wait for a new fuge, things are ok.

Here are a few pics of the setup and aquascaping. Water is still a little cloudy, since there is no skimming and less flow....

Did you use anything to hold your aquascape together, or is it just the rocks laying on each other? just wondering...

The rocks are just laying there. They got repeated "push, press, pull, shake" tests. I know some people drill their rock and then use plastic rods to hold them in place (especially if you want more of a column look).
