Could Coraline be affected by Lighting?

I have been using a 250w pheonix bulb for a year and have gotten great coraline growth and a friend gave me a 20k bulb that hes used for I am guessing 5 months. And I gave it a try for about a month and it seems coraline doesn't grow anymore. Could the bulb be too old so its not giving the stuff coraline needs?

lighting definitely affects coralline growth but your problem is due to your low alkalinity calcium and/or magnesium levels.

I have coraline algae growing in my QT tank with a 56 watt PC over it. Bulbs probably 2 years old. I don't think coraline needs special lighting to grow.

Corraline does not thrive in intense lighting but more subdued lighting. Your old bulb had probably faded over time and the new bulb probably was alot more intense. I would also check your alk and calcium levels like gary said.

i will be running 3 250watt MH bulbs. are you saying i wont have any luck with corraline growth??

No, you can still grow coralline with intense light too...there are many factors though...not just lighting and calcium/alk....also, think about flow...good flow will increase coraline growth...and little critters that pick at the rock will help proliferate coraline by scraping it off into the water column and allowing it to rest on other rocks/glass.
