Could someone confirm or deny my fears please?

Are the lights on? He might do better with them off. I thought my wrasse was a goner, laying in the corner on his side. He pulled through and is doing well now.

Now I'm still pretty new but you did mention that it was freshly mixed salt water and I've read that any undissolved salts can damage fish gills. I was told to mix salt 24-48 hrs prior to water changes. This is however speculation... Just thought I would mention it. I'm still doing all the research myself and I'm always learning!

Good luck with the clown! I know how it feels I lost my smaller clown a few weeks ago (still a mystery)

This is true freshly mixed saltwater is very caustic.

So an update. clown #1 is still swimming around happy as a clam. However, Clown #2 passed during the night... I tested ammonia and PH again just to be sure and got ) Ammonia and 8.2 PH.

I would have suggested a formalin dip prior to tank transfer.

The problem is that many LFSs run sub-therapeutic levels of copper to mask disease while they are in the store. Once they get into QT, viola, the disease emerges (e.g., brook). I always bring a vial and ask for the LFS water when I buy a fish locally (which is becoming less and less). And essentially all the stores around me are running low copper in their fish systems. Thus, with clowns, I assume they all have brook and do the formalin dip prior to TTM. Buying from a LFS that has the clowns in with coral can be safer (obviously not running 0.1-.2 ppm Cu with coral), but still obviously need to QT.

(I get a vial of water so I can test it prior to opening the bagged fish -- I have also seen people use syringes to get water from the bag and reseal while testing, but the vial is easier).

Most of my purchases these days are from Diver's Den. I still do a full QT (I got an assessor that developed ich in QT), but it's going to be very rare to see a fish come from DD with brook, etc.

I actually asked this store about their copper policy. They said they dont run it in any of their display tanks because most of their tanks also have corals in them. Apparently they are setting up a quarantine tank for just copper, but its not running yet.

My apologies if I made it unclear. It was freshly mixed about a day before I put fish in there. I meant to say that it didnt come from any other tank.

Also, I would use tank water from my DT, but my DT is still going through its cycle. I expect it to be done within a week, but I would rather not use water from it into the QT

Lights where off all night. I wanted it to be as stress free as possible...

Fortunately the LFS seems to stand by their fish. All they wanted was for me to bring in the body of the dead one with a water sample in a jar. If the water checked out, I could get a refund or replacement. So I got myself another clown. this one is happily swimming around with the first one and shows no sign of stress
