No, just a calcium reactor. And it goes to show light isn't everything as I run 150w halides, but I do only have only a 18-20" deep tank. No additives, I actually got tired of adding stuff to try and make my alk and pH just right, so now I do my water changes and let the numbers fall where they may. I have my calcium reactor dialed in, and just do regular water changes with Oceanic salt. I feed mostly spirulina brine, mysis, and some green flakes. Occasionally I might use Marine cuisine or Rods Food. I think flow has helped more than anything. I have a Koralia Magnum 7 and a Vortech MP-40 that puts out random flow patterns, with 4 loclines pointing in different direction from my return line. I have a refugium with alot of chaeto, and I keep the sump and refugium pretty clean as I vacuum out detritus every water change. I run a good cone skimmer with a Red Dragon pump. I have a Phosban reactor running GFO that I change every couple of months. My phosphates are always under .03. I have a very thin sandband, like 1/2", and vacuum it every few months. My temp never varies more than 78.5-79.5*. So I am not sure what is giving me growth, maybe a combo of all this... :0)

WOOOOOW!!!

I got a frag of red planet at last fall's swap. After aclimating it on the sandbed for a few days, I put it about mid tank which was approximately 12-15 inches directly below one of my 250MH. In short order it began to loose color. I did some reading and decided that the consensus was that it didn't want a lot of light and lower light seemed to help coloration. I put it back on the sandbed to recover. It has encrusted some and grown little...Since then, I haven't been too sure what to do, fearing it would not do well. It goes without saying that yours blows me away.

Any suggestions as to placement? I'm now inspired to get that lazy frag off the sandbed and make him get to work and do some growing :)

Yes, this coral doesn't need high light. I have mine halfway in the tank under 150's. I also have a few frags of it higher up that are encrusting well with good color. I think more than anything, clean water and high flow, along with consistant parameters and adequate calcium will get it growing.

Also, if it is on the sandbed, it may not be getting enough flow. You might find a high flow area off to the side of your lights where it is not directly under the bulb. But I would find some good flow for it.

That's simple enough. And it probably explains it. My parameters are all good...and I believe I have good flow but probably not where it is sited. Thanks :)
