couple of pics

Just got a new camera and these are my first real attempts at macro photography. I have had a couple of point and shoots but decided to get a DSLR. Pictures are taken with a Canon XTI and Sigma 105mm f/2.8 macro lens. Still trying to figure out what I am doing but I think these 3 turned out half way decent.

Critique and/or advice welcome.

i think on the shot with the zoas, the torch was more in focus. try using manual focus instead (and a tripod). the more you play around with the camera's settings and the lens, the more the lens will give you.

Thank you for the feedback. I am using a tripod and switched to manual focus on later photo attempts. One thing I am finding a challenge is the paper thin depth of field on macro shots. Its challenging to say the least.

I am finding that I take a lot of out of focus pictures with the Sigma 105mm f/2.8 macro whether in manual or auto focus. I have been shooting mostly in av and tv mode, any suggestions other than practice?

The elegence tentacles distracted me in the zoa picture and in retrospect I probably ended up focusing on them both figuratively and literally

try bulb with a remote, will keep the shutter open as long as you are holding down the button
