Couple of tank shots

I haven't taken a full tank shot in forever. Dan (purplereef) inspired me to do so...thanks Dan :). Things are going well in the tank and all appears steady and growing.

I picked up a nifty wild acro last weekend with a friend and it is looking good. The colors are deepening and it seems quite content in its new home. It looks dead on like the Acropora subglarba in Veron's book. It is a very close relative to the Acropora echinata, lower right bottom to the left of the Ponape Birdsnest mounted on a rock. It is a pretty pink with green inner branches. It is already getting a deeper pink in just a week. I am hoping the colors continue to deepen as time goes on.

Hey, provide your tank specifications. Show pics of your setup, sump, pump, protein skimmer, etc.

You are on your way to TOTM.

dailydriven911, Thanks for the kind words regarding the aquascaping. i cannot take any credit for that as I am hopelessly "aquascape challenged". My good friend Paul (prodman) has a gift for the art of aquascaping and he helped me build this design after I was struggling with just a chunk of rocks looking ghastly in the tank.

Dejavu, finally taking off is right. I feel like it is starting to fill in a bit. The right side of the tank needs some help as far as filling in but I have some slow growing stags and smaller, more recently acquired corals on that side. In another 6-8 months it should be filled in quite nicely.

Orochimaru, Thanks :)

bigian, You are a crack up...eyes like a hawk for those hidden chalices, lol. That is a rather large colony of an alien eye echinopora, green body, deeper green eyes, with a light purple leading rim. It got a little sunburned recently so I hid it in some shade so it can get the color back. I'll send you a piece if you want it :).

Fonda, The fish are so camera shy..a.ctually they were just cruising and somehow all managed to be int he rock work. I do need to get some fish that are out and about more like my other tank, where all the fish are always out front and center. Currently I have 2 Resplendent hybrid angelfish, 1 foxface, 1 mandarin dragonete, and a pair of clowns who always have a nest of eggs they are attending to in the back of the tank. At least now they picked a new nest site where I can see them really well :D. I am thinking of adding a couple new fish...I saw one in Ming's display tank behind his desk at Atlantis last weekend and I need to call him and ask him what it is because I fell in love with it. It looks to be one of those wrasse types that will flit in and around the rocks...so not an out front and center fish, but I liked it.

BeachBum70, Thanks so much for the compliment.

Stacie, Things are going really good in this tank. I almost hate to say that as I don't want to jinx it, lol.

Dolby_1999, Tanks specs: Lee Mar custom 36" x 24" x18" tank (about 70g) with Eurobracing. Open top...look down style tank. I have a shorter custom oak stand so that one can stand at the tank and look down into it. When sitting on the couch in the living room you are looking straight into the front view. I live in a kind of small house so the lower height helps to not have the tank overwhelm the space. I run 2x250w DE Phoenix 14K bulbs in PFO mini pendents. This is soon to change to a Gieseman Spectra 24" pendent with a single 250w SE 12K Reeflux bulb and 4 T5's. I am most curious as to how the corals will respond and how the tank will react overall to less MH but additional supplementation with T5's. I think it will be a great change and the Geisman fixture should look really nice with this setup. I am exciteed about it. As far as setup under the hood...Sump made by LifeReef, Geo Calcium Reactor on a Pinpoint PH controller, Zeo Reactor, Deltec skimmer, Mag 9 return pump (I think), a single Vortech and 4 nanostreams for flow in the tank. I have two nanos completely hidden in the rock work to keep the bottom layer of the tank moving and two nanos on the right side of the tank with the return all shooting in different directions with the Vortech on the left side of the tank. All of this on controllers for random flow in the tank. I run an Aquacontroller for lights, heat, fans. That about sums it up. As far as pictures go...It is way to messy under the tank and I am too embarresed to take pictures of the mess, lol

You are on your way to TOTM.

I don't know about this.Tthere are so many awesome setups out there with incredible corals and fish and rock work...I can't even begin to think I am in that league. But thank you so much for that compliment...it is the highest praise from someone.

Alicia- I have been spending to much time in the LTF on my build thread. The tank looks great. Did you ever switch back to reefers best? I know you liked the color you were getting with it.

Mark,
I just witched back to Reefers Best Salt. I said I would never do it as it was so hard to get that it was causing me to switch salt brands all the time. After almost two buckets of Sea Chem, which seems fine enough, I wanted to go back so I bit the bullet and bought 3 buckets of the Reefers Best Salt. I started doing a slow switch over from the Sea Chem to the RBS two weeks ago. I am at about 60% Sea Chem and 40% RBS for my third water change. I have abou 1/4 of a bucket of Sea Chem left so I will slowly switch over until I run out of the Sea Chem and be back on the RBS completely, probably within about 6 weeks. Time will tell.

kev apsley, Thanks so much for the kind words. Much appreciated. We all work so hard on our reef tanks that having good words from others means a lot.

Mike, Zeo has been very very good to me :). I have had my trials and tribulations finding the right combos of elements and dosing regiment over the life of the tank, almost 3 years now. The colors have always been superb when I don't screw up something...it is always operator error when things go bad in my tank, lol.

PUGroyale, al abaqueta, BLKTANG and natterbox, Thanks :D. It has taken a lot of work to get it here and I am feeling good about it for the most part. You know how a reefer is though, often can't leave things alone, always tweaking this or that. I guess that is part of the obsession...the tinkering part :).
