Cousin of the 1300 gallon addiction: The Miami Kitchen Build

I see it finally bit ya! Good luck with the build from socal. It's going to look nice and your primo build is just ridiculous(in a good way lol).

What's up bro!! Awesome to see you on here. When are you getting back into it? whenever you're in town, I'd love to meet up and buy a beer for the new family member. Congrats!

what did you use in your cleaning... long ago I had got a tank for free but had a ton of build up and calcification ... decided a vinegar soak for a few days... and it worked out amazing... but getting it all out of the tank was definitely a challenge lol

I actually used something similar, still want to do a couple more rinses. I didn't soak it completely, used a spray bottle with 50/50 water vinegar, a magic eraser (no chemicals) with a razor. But I have been thinking soaking and might do it. How did you do it?

This is going to be really cool when done! Also; as you progress, are you still really thinking fish only? lol....you will change to the reef side after a while I bet! lol

Very valid question, as you can see how quickly I was convinced of going from a No to a Yes on a fish tank, I'm starting to really understand the addiction of the reef side. I've already thought of it but for now i'm just going to set up the tank so I can transition in the future if i do decide to do it.

I'm realizing the learning curve is very steep for me here. So looking forward to seeing how everyone opines on different systems and setups.

thanks for following along.

Whaaaaa??????!!!!! This is a cool story... just got done looking at the other thread and now this?! Man, really nice stuff. Tagging long!

X 2 with Dave having access panels on the front. My last tank was built into a wall with only access from the rear. I wish I had made access from the front on numerous occasions. from the rear it is be really hard to see any macro algae growing at the bottom by the sand that you would need a razor or scraper to clean. when you are looking at the front glass from the rear all you can see is the reflection which making cleaning the hard stuff a 2 person job. One person to point out where to scrape from the front and one person from the rear to scrape it. You could always stand on the counter on the days you need to clean the front glass.

Either way good luck with the build! I can't wait to see more!

What would you guys recommend? this is going to be the kitchen, the sink and counter are going to be right in front of the display. How big do you believe the access panel should be?

I've thought about this before and have kinda dismissed it as i didn't think it would make such a big deal. Having 3 people mention it now makes me believe you guys might be on to something.

Nice build you have going on there Lester! I'm definitely jealous lol, this is a setup I wish I could have and i am sure it will be great. Good luck and happy reefing!

Does that whole wall have knockdown texture on it?
How are you planning to trim the tank? Wood trim? Drywall finish? Stainless Steel like the picture you found? Subscribed 😃

Don't look now, but the girl from The Ring is lurking behind you as you take the picture. Check out your reflection. Think she's a reefer?

I thought the same thing about the reflection! Lol!

What a great view from that spot...Just add a recliner right there and I'll know exactly where to go when Christy tells me to stop staring at the tank at home, haha. Can't wait for this one to come together.

In a bachelor pad, you do NOT want any access from the front.. I guarantee if it had access someone would want to give your fish and corals beers and everything else if they had access :)

Yeah all the walls have knockdown texture on it. I'll be adding a stainless steel trim all the way around. trying to keep it as flush with the wall as possible. below the tank will have the small counter backsplash, since the sink will be there.

thanks for following along.

welcome to the addiction.....

looking good so far!

women like reef tanks methinks, it shows you can handle commitment and can care for critters = marriage and kids! so the proposals should roll in as soon as this is all up and running....
