covering powerheads...

I purchased and acclimated a RBTA from a local reefer last week and so far all is going well. My only powerhead in my 28 gallon NC is a Vortech MP10. For those who are familiar it comes with a foam cover that covers the intake portion of the powerhead. To be safe I covered the whole thing with filterfloss and a rubberband. Is this going a bit overboard or is it possible for the anemone to move into the outlet of the pumps fan? Should I just use the foam cover supplied that covers the intake portion?

I don't have a Vortech, but I would use the foam cover until it finds it's happy spot and stays put. Could take a while. One thing about BTA's is that if they're placed in the rock on a bommie or with sand surrounding the rock like an island, they won't cross the sand. Now, that said, they can let go of the rock and float around, but I see a lot of other nems do that and not so much BTA's.

One thing's for sure though - anemones can get chopped up pretty good through pump intakes, so you need to keep a watchful eye on them.
