Covering Powerheads

Is there any new ideas on covering powerheads? I use sponges to cover my Hagen's, but they are a pain. What's everybody else using?

I use quick clips, they work great.
No sponge, just vented plastic, easy to clean.

hagen aquaclear quick filter without the filter cartridge on all of my hagen powerheads . you can also put rain gutter guard plastic mesh in it for extra screening but it's not really needed . i run a seio m620 as is , so far so good but would not rec. doing so with bta's because of how small they or their clones can be when they divide .

I run Aquaclears too, but they have a cone on the end that needs to be covered by a sponge. They are old pumps. What do yours look like? Do maybe the newer ones have a different design?

only the 126gph and 174gph models have the conical strainer the 270gph and 400gph don't . the 270gph and 400gph models have a reverse flow option .
i had the first 270gph powerhead produced by hagen in the early-mid 80's it didn't have the reverse flow mechanism , i don't think yours are that old , prob. one of the two smaller units . hagen renamed their powerheads over the years but other than that they are all essentially the same .
the quick filter comes with an adapter insert to fit all hagen powerheads ( i don't know about the 900gph behemoth ) .

Okay, I'll check them out at the pet store tomorrow. I think my hagens are from the 80's - they're pretty old. Thanks a lot for your help.

You can also go to a craft store and look in the kniting section. They should have an 8x11 inch sheet of plastic screening for about 50 cents. Then just use zip ties to install.
