covering TUNZE stream intake for anenome?

is it ok to cover the intake of a stream for anenome protection? i was thinking of using some kind of mesh, like the rubber backing used to keep area rugs from sliding, BUT don't want to lessen pump output w/ this. would covering the intake cause this?

It will definitely reduce output. What kind of anemone, is it new? The Stream rock generally is a big help in this regard as it covers the pump.

RBTA, new 1, getting wed. i have 2 6000s and picking up 3rd in 1 hour. my streams are up high, new will be on glass magnet about 8" from top. no LR leading up to streams which is reason i was NOT going to cover, BUT i keep reading that i should anyway........i don't see an anenome climbing glass up high under bright MH (RBTA's don't really love/need bright MH) and get stuck in MJ and TUNZE stream intakes, but i am no anenome pro at all. this will be only my 2nd of all time.

The problem is that the RBTA will wander alot when new and may float around a while. When you add him, stop the pumps for an hour or so. Run one at 30% for a day. Slowly up the flow as you get confident he is happy and not moving. FWIW, my rose got sucked into my 6000 and it survived, but I would avoid it if possible, it looked scalped, no tentacles on one side. It is still alive so they are tough once established, that was over a year ago.

if i were to cover the intake w/ some kind of mesh rubber or whatever, would the output be drastically reduced, and can this cause a problem for the pump?

i'm wondering if i can maybe cover, leaving the middle of cover looser between intake and cover, just tightening w/ ties and top and bottom...kinda have the cover puffed out away from intake, just tight at top and bottom....?

It would reduce the output, I would avoid window screen but maybe some sort of coarse veil material.

how much reduction are we talking? if there's enough water getting through cover and inlet screen, i wouldn't think much. i will be using black needlepoint plastic. holes are not tiny but not big. probably the size of the entire o in your screen name rvitko.

Lost a GBTA last night to a nano 6025. It was a new nem that I put in yesterday afternoon. Left all my pumps off for about 3 hours for him to take hold. Turned them on last night and all seem to be well. Come down this morning and nem is gone, water is so cloudy you can't see in. After running carbon to clear it up I see green tips floating around the tank everywhere:( My skimmer has stopped producing skim and was full of pinkish white stuff that I am assuming is what was left after he went through the 6025. I have no idea how I am going to cover this thing due to its shape.

that sucks. sorry to hear. the nano streams are an odd shape but i'm sure u can cut something to size and fasten w/ zip ties, that is if u try for another nem...

Will most likely try, after I nem proof my nano streams. Was thinking of some sort of mesh, thanks for the zip tie idea.
