I went on a vacation to cozumel for a week. Some pics are from a snorkel trip and the rest are from my first open water dive @ 40 ft. I began my cert. while i was there but didnt have enough time to finish it. It was actually great because i was able to learn one on one with the instructor. I will finish it up back home.

Thanks, guys. I was always weary of diving because of my allergies. But if you are able to pop your ears at will than it should be no problem. Im hooked after 2 dives.

My wife already had the camera, i have DSLR and the cases are soo expensive. I was looking to get a waterproof camera but it seemed they only go to about 30 or so feet for the point and shoots. THey are also close to 300 bucks. This housing goes to 200 feet. It is very well made and i think for the money 99 bucks, the pictures came out pretty good, considering the camera is a few years old technology.

My wife and I are trying to decide between Cozumel and Belize for our next dive trip. Cozumel is cheaper but I was wondering about drift diving. I know that for the most part every dive in Cozumel is a drift dive and have two questions: Was the drift very fast or difficult to dive in, and two did the drift make it difficult to take pictures.

You said that you were only able to dive to 40' so did your instructor take you to easier dive locations or were you diving the same places as the rest of the groups.

Like i said that was my first boat dive. THe instructor took be a bit more inland because the other divers were at a wall that in some places goes down 1500 feet. I wanted none of that lol. THe drift wasnt very strong, although i never really went against the current. I had no problem snapping @ 100 pictures. This is a must see place. I liked it better than snorkeling in hawaii, which is where i went on my honeymoon hawaii was also where we passed up Belize to go. Id still like to get to Belize but cozumel is a must see place. We went for 7 days for 2300.00 all inclusive. cant beat that.

I haven't dove Belize but I loved Cozumel. There were lots of fish, eels, rays, huge gorgeous coral formations and great viz. The current was calm most dive sites and I was able to take pictures when my camera cooperated. There were two dives where the current was too strong to stop and take pictures but it wasn't crazy fast. It changes from day to day but the DMs looked from the surface and let us know if it was going to be a fast current. IF you ask the dive shop and let them know you want less current as a photographer they will try and steer you to the right sites.
The shore diving was good, and had a slight current.
Have a great trip.

Also it helps if you are comfortable ascending/descending in the blue without a rope. The DMs all have a buoy with a line that they let out at the end of the dive and I saw some people kindof hanging onto that line but it's mostly just for reference.

I would rent it first. See if you like it. Get certified, then get your own stuff. You can get an entry level setup for around 800 bucks.
