CPR Type Overflows

I used one for many years before I got a reef ready tank. They will work if you are diligent in upkeep. I wasn't. I had one flood and several near misses over the years. The airline connection can clog which causes a build up of air in the siphon section and slows down the suction, then the overflow can't keep up with the return pump... at least that is my experience.

The failures posted above are commonplace. Get a quality U Tube based overflow (I like Lifereef). Much more reliable.

I have been using a CPR overflow for over 10 years without any problems.
I think they look better, are quieter and can move more water than U-tube style overflows.
Someone posted a pic of a Reef Octopus over flow the other day that really looked nice.

I used Lifereef overflow for several years all I ever did was clean the u tube about once every six months. The thing never missed a beat.
