Crab I.D. Needed

The first one I thought was a Porcelain but I didn't think they had those fans to wave around in front of them? They are cool to watch and I have a lot of them.

And the second, I have no freakin idea. Not a great shot but he was in a weird spot in the rock. He was upside down but i flipped the pic.

First is a very good guy...porcelain............2nd a deco crab I think...but different from your orange sponge deco crab.......was diving today...BRRRRRRRRRRRRR....53 in the gulf today, 0 vis...but I got the killer rock today!

Now if my bag supplier would come though from the order that was supposed to be here last month.....I could ship...they are saying next week sometime, so hang in the yall....

oh, so he IS a porcelain. That's what I thought but google pics don't show the fans. Nice! I have A LOT of them.

And I was wondering if the second one was a decorator, but he's definitely not as cute as the red one. A lot bigger though.

yes the first one is porcelain crab and i got atleast 8 of them on one rock alone in my order


and by the way that is an AMAZING picture you have taken of the porcelain crab. i dont know if there is any picture of the month competitions on this forum but if there is i think that would be a top candidate to win

Jeez those pictures are just amazing. What kind of equipment are you using?

RC used to have an avatar of the month contest, that porcelain crab shot would be a sure winner!

Thanks, it's a nikon dslr and a tamron macro lens.

Here's another shot of the crab, pulled back a little. You can see the fan from another one on the bottom right, and all the Rod's Food particles they're going nuts for on the top right.
Looks like outter space or something. lol

Not to hijack the thread, but I had a few porcelain crabs when I first got my TBS rock. I must have over 30 now. How fast doe these crabs multiply?

I think they just came out of hiding. I have 2 that I could find(only 40 lbs of rock) and only have seen one since intro, and he really likes to hide a LOT. I have tiny dust-like algae, assuming diatoms, on my glass from time to time. When they are out, and I scrub the algae off the glass his fans go insane.

A lot of articles I have read about decorators(definitely #2) say they are reef safe, but MANY here say they don't trust them. If you have some LR in your sump, I'd throw him in there.

i highly doubt they are reproducing probably just hiding really well
