Any ID?

Caught this guy today. I haven't added any live rock in over 3 years, so I suppose he's been in there quite some time. Judging by red nocturnal eyes and the big pile of snail shells in my tank, I'll venture to guess that it ain't reef safe :)

That is perhaps one of the most awsome looking crabs I have ever seen.. On that note. Keep him in containment. No idea on the I.D.

I've seen my LFS guy pull a couple of those out one of his tanks. He said they were bad and he threw it in with a couple Triggers.

Yep, I'm hanging on to it / feeding it for now, till I find time to give it to someone's mantis...

wish I had a sump, I'd keep it to see how big it'll get.

2 month bump

It's still alive. In refuge w/ a little piece of rock. I feed it.

Anyone have an ID?

Thanks mbbuna, LeslieH said the crab collection for museum was over quite some time ago (when I asked her in Jan.), you might ask her if you should remove the sticky.

I pulled one of those out I never knew i had for a year until things suddenly went missing but were found up inside a crevice in a rock only a crab could have moved those snail shells there... Not reed safe but cool. Mine is enjoying the calm soothing rhythm of my sump ;p

Purely a guess but the white. flat tipped claws look similar to a Mithrax crab - maybe a red mithrax? If it is it shouldn't be any more of a problem than an emerald. Like I said, just a guess.

I know he's a Xanthid. I'm forgetting which type, I had hunted it down before. I can't find the exact name but there are some ID sites out there if you google for them (I think i found help via RC search and wetwebmedia) and i found one where you can ID by picture.

He's *not* a red mithrax their whole carapace (sp?) is red
