Crazy Clown!!

My yellow-striped maroon clown has developed a bad habit. Every once in a while (several times per day) he puts his back fin in the sand and rapidly moves it back and forth. In the process creating huge "divots" in the sand bed. Its becoming extremely annoying, because it looks stupid and sends sand into the water column. Anybody else experience this problem? This just started a couple weeks ago.

I have a 4-5 inch tomato clown that does the same thing. Really makes quite the sandstorm. On one hand, it is really annoying but on the other, it keeps my sandbed stirred better than anything else I could think of (just make sure that it isn't destabilizing your rockwork). I let my tomato have the back side of the tank to dig in...the front side I fix as soon as she digs and place small pieces of rock in the sandbed to discourage this habit.

My female GS Maroon does the same thing especially when I irritate her by messing with things on her side of the tank. I think it's cute.

thanks for the reply. I think he may be hosting in my duncan, and therefore doing this as a threatening motion to my royal gramma who has his hole right next to it. i t have noticed that the "digging" has coincided with his aggression towards him. Just a thought

I have an area in the middle of my tank about 10 inches wide that my GSM keeps "clean". She also will not tolerate placing any corals around the area.
