Critique my rock work.

I think it looks good, but to be honest I think it looked great before. Maybe I chimed in too late? I think I'm biased because it's essentially a larger size but otherwise identical to my setup.

It will look much different once the corals are on there, as all corals will grow to different shapes and sizes. So I wouldn't concentrate a ton on having it fill space perfectly for now. You've laid a good foundation but the real shape will take place when it grows in.

"Looks good. It is just the foundation for all your coral growth. The only tweek I would make is take that one piece in the middle(above the 2nd opening from the left), and work it into either side to give a nice opening kind of seperating the 2 structures. Like I said just a tweek!"


I agree with this. I would take advantage of the 30in. height and have a few more peaks and valleys. It will add more dimension; one tall structure and another smaller structure.

Wow, so many of you chimed in! Thanks guys! I really appreciate everyone's input.

I understand what you guys are saying about a two structure setup. However, having a 24" wide, 30" tall tank, I feel like I'd be wasting valuable real estate in doing this. If I had a 36" wide, 30" tall tank, I'd be all about it.

I used up most of my favorite rocks on this tank so I'll probably try the two structure setup on the 180 I'm building. There won't be as many ledges on that tank. Probably just two rock piles lol.

I was so dreading the rock work. This tank ran with nothing in it other than saltwater for almost two weeks lol. I was at work till midnight last night, then spent most of my afternoon modifying it. It sounds so easy until you actually try it.

You know, every time I've tried to aquascape a tank, one side will go up super quick and easy. Then the other side will be nothing but problems. I'll have it just right, then I'll see something I want to tweek JUST a little. Then CRASH! It all comes crumbling down. I'm sure we've all spent hours and hours trying different rock combinations trying to get them to not only fit and be stable.. but also to look good. So aggravating.

Ditto.
Some open spaces, cliffs, isolated rock formations, would make for a better and more natural looking tank. Make some taller rock formations, and some smaller.
It's way too symmetric, IMO.

I'll be adding a shallow sand bed. Just haven't decided which size. I'm thinking fiji pink? I need to look into it more.

You only have to move 1 rock, and you`ll have 2 structures.

But it does look much better than first.
