Critique My Sump Design....

Enjoy you are right there isnt much of a difference between 10 to 11 inch water height i was just curious why that section was lower thats all... but also consider that little 1 inch difference wont have that much effect on tank/sump bracing... oh and all the baffles end up acting like supports making your sump really strong... just a thought.

Enjoy, I had AA make me a seperate ATO res the full length of my sump and 7" wide, so 36x7x16 = 17.45 gallons. Maybe you could take your ATO out of the sump and do something similar, or even just move items in your sump to have a full length ATO res?

Not a bad Idea. Will cost a pretty penny more, but it might be worth it. I will look into it, thanks Bryan!

Also, not sure if somebody said this. But when deciding to make your baffles/water level 9"-11" also think about if the power goes out, or pump fails or? that the sump can completely handle all the extra water from the tanks overflow that will drain into the sump. I got lucky on my last sump, and barely made it by 1/2"! wheww.... close one!

I have done the math and the "extra" volume in this sump will easily hold my DT overflow volume if there is a power outage or if my return pump died. It should still have at least 1" to the top of the sump.

Tank = 120g
Sump = 40-50g

Thanks! Keep it comin!!!!

The return section looks small. Are you planning to drill the sump and use an external pump? Also I would invest in check valve for your return line. That 1" is cutting it too close...
