Critters

Hey I have these tube like worms, (http://melevsreef.com/id/dualpalps.html), as well as baby aipastia, (i believe), growing on my rocks. Will any inverts eat these? without hurting my baby sea horses?

Also, are snails and small hermit crabs ok?

The worms are good, the aiptasia not so much. When you say baby seahorse, how old/small are they? If they're seahorse fry, I'd say no on the hermits. Snails will be fine. You may have to use kalkwasser to kill the aiptasia. Peppermint shrimp eat them, but they would also eat seahorse fry.

If its aiptasia you should get rid of the immediately because anemones and sygnathids are no go.

I have those same exact worms, they are kind of cool. They build those tubes with grains of sand.

My prefer method of killing nasties is fendbendazole. Unfortunately it also kills good worms, some snails, and probably a few other inverts. But its the only way I've found that is really effective at getting rid of hydroids.

Fenbendazole is found under the trade name Pancur. You can get it at farm supply stores or online. Dosage for the granules (22.2% fenbendazole) is: 1/8 teaspoon per 10 gallons of water. 25% water change 24 hours later.

i know there's a H2O2 treatment for hydroids, but it won't help with the appies. i need to find the exact protocol tho.

some peeps have luck with using a lower dose fenbendazole (Panacur) treatment, but still, it will kill certain snails.

this is one of the problems with keeping zots in a tank w/LR...
