Crocea clam

I happened across a Crocea clam (long story) and am now realizing that I may be in for trouble. I have a 29 gallon tank with 130 watts of PC lighting Dual 10K and Dual Actinic over the tank.

I know they say Metal Halide is preferred but the clam is high up ... I would say about 4 inches from the top of the water. Will he be ok in this setup or is he doomed for death. Such a pretty specimen and with the story behind it I had to take it.

So far it's looking good! Open's nice but not to wide like it's not getting enough light. The mouth is not a big gap, but rather a small slit and seems to respond to the Phyto and Cyclo-peez feedings pretty well.

If the general consensus turns out to be "Good Luck" then I will more than likely get rid of him to a more suitable aquarium.

If I can snap a good pic I will post it for you.

Thanks!

how large is the clam? also do you have stable alk and calcium? if you have all his other requirements met, he'll probably survive, depending on how far the actual lighting is from the top of the water as PC's don't penetrate the water column too well. i would definitely consider halides or t5s though.

good luck :D if you need a new home for him lmk!

Ca and Alk are stable, well at least they have been until I added the Clam ... I know they gobble it up pretty fast!
The Clam right now is just around 3 1/2 inches, and I would say the lighting sits right around 2 inches off the surface so total the clam is probably around 6 inches from the light!
Higher lighting right now is pretty much out of the question.

AAAAAAAAAAAAARGH!!!!!!!!! Well I will sleep on it for a few days, but you will be first in line if I decide to get rid of him.

Don't know why I keep calling it a him!! LOL
