Crocea keeps Falling

I've had a crocea in my tank for about 6 months, in that time hes gone from about 3-4 inches, there are nice fresh growth ridges. He lives on a rock thats buried in the sand. 2 days ago I found him upside down in the sand. How he fell from 0 height is unknown, I put him back on his rock and again I found him upside down in the sand. So I thought maybe hes all sudden wants more light, I moved him onto a rock about half way up, and again he falls. Everytime I move him he opens fully for a while and when I'm not watching he'll fall.

The only things that gone wrong lately is that my controller stopped working I had a temp swing from 78 to 83 degrees. Everyone else seems happy. Any idea on whats going on?

I had a smaller crocea (~2.25") which took some weeks to settle- I ended moving it 4-5times until he stayed put. The last time the light intensity was a little lower where I moved it, but I think it may just be an issue of the clams selectivity. It's also possible a bristle worm (or other) may be bothering it? I would try a few more locations and try to locate in a natural saddle if possible.

I had a clam doing this also, i'm guessing this is because the clam is not happy in its current location, they sort of throw themselves off by closing there mantles really fast. I'd try and find a location on the rock that has a flat or sort of dipped in area so he can't fall over as easily... then maybe he'll attach. Goodluck

I put my crocea in the sand for this very reason. He wouldn't stay on the rocks. Is it okay for him to live in the sand? I have metal halides.

i have one in the sand and one on the rocks, it depends on how deep your tank is and how bright your halide is, but in general it should be fine, try placing a small flat rock under him in the sand and he'll attach.
