Crocea problems

Ive got a Crocea that up until recently was doing great. Then for some unknown reason it jumped off its rock and every time I put it on another one it jumps off again. I'm worried it will get damaged and die any suggestions would be great.

It doesn't like that spot, try another one.

Can you post a pic of the clam?

I've been doing that I'm starting to run out of spots. I have a 120 with two 250 metal halide's

Nitrates are 2.5
phosphates are .1
calcium 450
salinity 1.023

The clam was low should I put him high he's only about 3 inches. I do have some microbubles in my tank I dont know if that would have anything to do with anything.

crocea's like to be high up on the rocks. try putting it up near the top.

I agree with skinz on moving it higher but make sure it's a spot where if the clam decides to "move" it doesn't fall deep into your rockwork. I had one fall and plinko down through the live rock and I had to do some excavating to get to it. NOT FUN!

Yes good point I have a bunch of small maxima's and have had to excavate my rocks several times. I have actually lost 3 so far and couldn't find them.

I think I've got him in a good spot now he hasent tried to make a run for it yet. I put him at the top of my roch (about 3/4 the way up my tank) in a spot where theirs a 1/2 inch divit and he seems to have nessled in. Thanks for all your hel hopefully he will stay there.

I used a half of a clam shell and my clam quickly attached itself to it. Once it was attached to the shell, I epoxied the shell to a spot on my live rock where I wanted it, and it's been there ever since!

yeah, that is what I had to finally do with my little maxima's. Before I even imagined that I could successfully keep clams I purchased a Squamosa shell just to add to the look of my lr. LOL now it is a clam nursery, they can't get knocked out of it easily.

I've done a lot of reading lately and it seems they seem to like to sit in an indentation in the rock. I think this is because in nature they are in the rock not on top of it. I could be totally wrong but from what I've read thats the impression I get.

Crocea's are also known as rock boreing clams. They have the ability to dissolve rock and bore into it. An indentation would be helpful but not nessisary.

Slight bleaching of the mantle?

What might be some causes of "spot" bleaching in the folds of the mantle? This is a crocea clam that is in the sandbed on a rock but keeps knocking itself over... I am watching closely and hoping it doesn't worsen...

I just added carbon to my sump filtration... might that cause it? That's the only thing different... I feed DT's phytoplankton every day...

2X 250W 14K Phoenix MH (bulbs less than one month old), supplemented by 2x 96W Actinic PC

No changes in the flow...
