Crocea trouble

so i picked up 5" two ultra croceas for $35 a piece. however, i took them directly out of the bag at work and took a little bit of a risk on them. they do have some issues. one of the clams is bleached in the siphonal mantle, not centralized bleaching as described in Knopps book. i am wondering what everyone's experience is with clams and their recovery from bleaching events.

the second clam is showing a tiny amount of bleaching in the siphonal mantle but is not opening completely. the mantle is coming to the edge of the shell but not completely out. i was thinking about giving it a FW dip for a while to see what that can do. anything else that i should be doing for these clams?

tank is a 65 gal with a 400W halide 10k. the clams are on the sandbed on some rocks and i've shortened the photoperiod to 8 hours to acclimate them to the light. so i hope everything turns out well.

Clams can recover from bleaching but typically the causes of the bleaching need to be removed from the situation. Short term you'll likely need to step up feeding with phytoplankton.

We might be able to provide more assistance with information on water conditions, age of system, occupants, additives. etc.

Until you can pinpoint a causitive agent, you'll likely only be stressing the clam further.

don't really know the cause cause i got them out of the bag like this 2 days ago.

the tank is about 8 months old with live stock for about 3 months. i have some SPS growing like mad in there so i figured that the clams should be able to survive.

ammonia: 0ppm
nitrite: 0ppm
nitrate: <5ppm
phophate: <.25ppm
calcium: 460ppm

i'll test iodine and strontium later tonight.

occupants: Solarensis wrasse, square spot anthias, ranford goby, six line wrasse, blood shrimp and skunk cleaners

Hippopus, T. crocea, some other sps

Seems like the water is fine.

Definitely step up the phytoplankton feeding regimen, I use the new DT's formula. In addition, I have had what appears to be positive reactions when using Knops Koralvit F.

Keep your eyes on the shrimp since they might start pestering the clams, the clams will likely slime up during stress and shrimp seem to be attracted.

Good luck.
