Crocea

I have been having some trouble with my Crocea. I got it about 3 weeks ago and it has for the most part been doing ok until this past week. I placed it on a nice rock on top of the sand bed and it opened up right away. The clam came attached to a small chip of rock. Probably chipped off of a bigger rock to save it from being ripped of that rock it had already attached itself to. I have been using Tahitian Blend daily along with calcium and alkalinity addition.

Over the past week, the mantle hasn't expanded past the lip of the shell. As a matter of fact it has actually reached farther back as the week progressed. It has kept tipping itself over on the rock. At first I thought it wasn't getting enough lighting so I moved it to the top of the tank where the 250 VHO MH offered sufficient lumination. However it stilled kept tipping itself over exposing its bissal gland. I then moved it back to the bottom of the tank right on to the sand bed and the same thing happened.

Anyone have any idea what I should do??

Dt's would be better. But I do not think that is the problem. Can you please list tank specifications, size, what type lighting, calcium, ph,alk, ammonia, nitrate, nitrite, water temp, what kind of flow you have?

How do you add your alk, calcium supplement?

With more info, maybe we can help.

This sounds like

This sounds like

classic clam disease symptoms. If you have only had the clam for a month, I would go back to the store and complain although I am 100% sure they will deny it.

The other option is too much light, but that's kind of hard to do for a crocea unless it's been abused.

FWIW, I think the Tahitian Blend is just fine for feeding clams. Somebody can drag up the article if they want to, but I seem to be getting good results using it.

Good enough for me.
