Crocea?

Can you tell me something about these guys? It my first clam attempt.

How do I know if it a Crocea?

It keeps moving to the side and blowing sand out its bottom.
why?

Should I cover up it bottom side, in case fish try to pick at it?

Pics would help, and if it is a Crocea they need to be placed up in your rock work and will attach to the rock

are your halides at least 250 and up? If so the light is plenty. A way to tell if its a crocea is in the smoothness of the shell...and the pattern of the mantle. But yeah post a pic of the clam and we can help id it for you.

Clams will often try to move if conditions are not correct and that might be what you are seeing. They generally like low-medium flow, strong light, phytoplankton supplementation, trace nitrates, trace phosphates, a solid bottom (or rock) to attach to. Also, if there is a lot of sand or detritus building up in/on the clam, the clam may be trying to blast it off by closing quickly.

Croceas specifically need very strong lighting as Scuba Dog suggested above. IMO they do well with tons of phyto additions especially when their zooxanthellae are first acclimating to the tank conditions.

Definetly a Crocea...smooth shell and similar in color to the purple/blue I have seen. I placed a flat rock slightly under the sand and placed the calm on top of it, then placed small rumble around it to keep it upright. Hope it attaches soon and is happy. I have 250W on the left and right of the tank and 400w in the middle where the clam is...directly in the middle. Any other suggestions?

Thanks to all that replied!!!!:D
