Crosshatch trigger pair, but male is aggressive towards female, she hides?

The female is hiding in a rock, come out just for 30 secs or so.. Maybe once a day.. He snaps at her and they dance around a little.. He is at least 3 inches bigger and does not bother any other fish..
He gaurds the cave shes in as well......

I tried researching and found nothing on this.. Im hoping she does not stress out and die... ugh....:sad2:

Anything I can do?

Oh, they are in a 7ft tank x 3ft, 30 inch tall and 650 total water volume.

Was this a newly aquired pair? I had a similar situation with my previous blue throat triggers purchase. The two triggers acted like a pair at the fish shop and they were sold to me as a pair. After I put them in the QT, they had the similar twisting and turning dance and I thought that was mating ritual. The male didn't make it through the QT and within a week the FEMALE started changing.

I believe either my female was a juv. / submale instead of a true female that belonged to the pair and they only stayed together (acted like a pair) in the LFS because there were simply too many other fish in the tank so they sticked together.

It could just be that with the new territory of your tank comes new territorial behaviour...if they were together at the lfs its atlot different than YOUR tank

so.... She eats right from the turkey baster but still only came out for 30 sec or so... I'll keep watching.. Im hoping she learns to hang w the male... im bummed! ugh

Yes my friend was beggin me to... Im way too lazy for that! lol

So, get this guys..... I was looking over from my catwalk above and noticed she was out... I went downstairs and bam, in the rock she went....

So, I tried this little observation again.. Sure enough, she is out and about... But the min I turn that corner, in the rocks she goes.. The tank id right in my living room/den area as a separator/divider with 360 view... She eats like a pig out of the turkey baster but she is just a little shy. When we watch from the couch she come out.. So in time I think she will be fine.. Im feeling much better now, thank you for those that helped:fish2:

Glad your feeling better about her, I would just give them time. My female didn't have this issue, but they were also QTed for 6 weeks at Aquatouch, perhaps she was like that there. I have also heard and seen many female Bluejaws being VERY shy at first. I never see my Male chase the girl, but she does occasionally have a nip in her fins, and he is easily the most likely culprit. Great fish, I hope you enjoy yours.

ya, thats true.. I really am glad I got these.. They are so fun to watch and so beautiful... The cleaner shrimps jump on them all day too, its awesome!

update, they are out and about all the time... shyness is all over!!:dance:
