Finally after almost 5 years of hiatus, I took the plunge and I purchased a 72*30*27 tank at Aquarium Village. The tank was custom made by DSA and it's currently sitting in my garage. I will have the stand and canopy custom made. I am still debating if I should drill thru my floor and have a fish room in the basement or just put a sump under the stand. Also I am pretty sure I will make a LED retrofit to reduce energy consumption and heat transfer to the tank. I am pretty much open to suggestions for all of the equipment. It will be a full blown reef but I still don't know if I want to go back to SPS's mixed with LPS's and softies or don't put any SPS's in the tank. Please help me picking the right equipment since I've been away from this hobby for so long. Thanks.

Welcome back. If you have room to do a fish room do it. I would make a list of equipment and different models you like. Lights MH t5 led. Then what brand. Echo tech vs AI vs Vertex. I am starting a new tank as well 225 g 72 x 30 x 24.

tagging along, if you have the option of drilling through the floor and having the sump room than that would be the way to go. More room to work instead of being cramped under the fish stand and better water stability. Excited to see how this goes.

bump! looking for updates, just wondering on the quality of the glass used.. I have a dsa 65 and very happy with it.. just wondering if the thicker glass starts to get really green or not

Congratulations, maybe some others that have done floor to floor fish rooms opposed to behind can chime in, my guess would be the speed of the water when it hits the sump, and how to slow it down. After that would be the size of the return pump to get the water back up to the tank.
