CRUDE and bubbles on top HELP!!!

220gallon

Hello Everyone,

Well I have changed over my filter system to a canister system and a new hang-on skimmer and now I am having a problem with bubbles and a kinda slim coat on the surface of the water. The rest of the tank is awsome and all chemical and salt levels are good.

I just want to get rid of the crude on the surface. Looks really bad. I was thinking of putting a hang-on filter to maybe help but it also pulls water from under the surface. Is there a hang-on filter that might skim the crude of the surface? Or some little trick I should try.

Thanks Everyone

surface skimmer--another hob filter may not cause enough surface agitation to eliminate the slime on a 225. --I'm guessing you don't have a sump/overflow system?

I jerry rigged my old system that had the same problem. I bought an overflow box from the fish store, (clearance for $3) put it into the tank and put the intake inside the overflow box. It skimmed the surface but was very risky because the pump may run dry if anything happens.

OR,,, ditto on the powerhead idea

I have two powerheads running. One on each end plus the output of the filter in the center.

I have the powerheads kindda in the middle of the water level. Should I maybe bring them closer to the surface?

Thanks

Aim them at the surface of the water so that it makes ripples. you might need more powerheads but try it with the 2 you have first.

ok I have ripple now. I have the two powerheads aiming more up and the filter output is also aiming up to help. I will see how that does for the night. In 3/4 of the top now it does look cleared up alot better then it was.

i had the same problem so i aimed them up, now i need another powerhead because im getting a light coat of algae on the substrate.
