Not a lot has changed lately ......






I had to remove all but the one Deresa clam because my two dwarf angels decided to got to town on them. They're fine in the fuge for now. I also have this little beauty in QT .....



..... eating well so far (3 weeks). Tank is now a frag-generator rather than a frag-consumer.

Even a large reef tank can become too small. This past weekend I was forced to find a new home for my very large magnifica anemone. I kept waiting for it to split, but it never has so ....




Clowns are wandering through the tank aimlessly ..... fortunately a replacement is on the horizon .....



Much smaller (6" versus 24") so assuming a successful transition, plenty to time to watch it grow.
 
If you don't want them to get so big stop feeding them, or feed them only a little once a week at most. Let photosynthesis do the rest.

Gee, why didn't I think of that ....... :hmm5:

Hadn't actually target fed it in over a year, expressly for the goal of not having it outgrow the tank. Unfortunately the clown fish apparently didn't get the memo :(. Growth was a result of whatever the clowns gave it plus photosynthesis.
 
Well, they do get big naturally, some up to a metre across; definitely deserving of a species tank.

OK, maybe child's play for some of you young whipper-snappers, but an achievement of no small measure for me (OK, I'm not THAT old, but still .....)

A sheet of nori lasts about a minute in my tank .....



..... if it's on video, it must be true! My Tangs are just as ruthless on GHA.

Even the cleaner wrasse gets into the action. proves the old adage that 'he who hesitates is lost' or in this case, gets nothing to eat.

Glad it's good, though. Will be interesting to see if it can now outgrow your tank.
 
Yeah, doesn't it! Good news is, now it has a new one. Bought off DD, through a week of treatment ..... looks pretty good.




A lot smaller. Even though DD listed it as 'large' both my boys initial reactions were 'its so small'. Though, to be fair, DD had it at 6" which is pretty much the exact diameter. Took my first mag about 18 months to go from 10" to 24", so this one ought to be good for a couple years ..... plus by then the itch to get an even bigger tank will be irresistible. Base is a dark brick red color, which should be really impressive once it gets a bit of size.

Tank looks great! I have the same tank and plan on setting it up this fall. Just out of curiosity do you have a stocking list? You have a great selection of fish. Keep up the good work.
 
I'll probably miss one or two, but essentially:

5 bimac anthias (all females; waiting for one to turn)
4 pyramid butterflyfish (though the 'runt' has gone missing in the last couple of days)
3 pj cardinals
3 bartletts Anthias
3 chalk basslets
2 Ocellaris clowns
2 green chromis
Achilles tang
Yellow tang (the alpha)
Purple tang
Desjardini Sailfin tang
Hippo tang
Meleagris leopard wrasse
Cleaner wrasse
Yellow tail blue damsel
Diamond watchman goby
Potters angel
Flame angel
Green mandarin
Dusky wrasse

Tank hits one year this week, which generally means the itch to upgrade begins anew. I'd love to have a group of convict tangs, a pair of zosters, and a really large group of chalk basslets, but 265 quickly becomes a limitation.

Nope, no large angels. Tank attempts to straddle the line between fish and corals - have enough trouble with the two dwarfs, not going to go big :)
