CT 265 Build

Breath taking! It will be great if could post a video of the tank at feeding time.

Are you still running Kessils? Can you write your thoughts about them?

Still running the Kessils yes. Three 360we and two 160 along with a pair of older reefbrreders photon 32 units. I've gone back and forth running MH still for a few hours a day, and it seems to make no difference. I'm planning to add one more 160 and then dump the halides for good. I've had some issues with SPS die off over the last 9 months or so; though I don't believe it's the lights. Overall, very happy with the kessils, just wish they'd dim down a bit more than they do.

A bit 'washed out' (particularly the montis) but good shots regardless ...

Looking very good man! Love seeing reef tanks with a lot of fish in them:D
Glad you like the Kessil's too, I wish I would have bought them to begin with.

Been a while since I updated this thread because there hasn't been much to update. Recently, though, my main Panworld pump has been behaving strangely with slightly varying flow. It's a 150 and I'm going to replace it with a 200. Man that's a big pump! lol reserve the 150 as an emergency.

Not really, tank is really now in maintenance mode. Here are a few recent shots using my iPad camera.

Less and less frequent updates

Still largely in maintenance mode ... how boring! A few mishaps. Prized anemone got pureed by one of my vortechs .... that's bad. Only lost one fish, a chromis, so that's good. Vortech also ate one of my leopard wrasses .... bad. Got a new one acclimated in QT .... good. Majano anemones are back .... bad. Though only in places where they're hard to reach, which means something is eating them ... good.

Planning to add a large refugium to the basement fish room, and reorganize/relocate things to ease maintenance. Not absolutely necessary, but see earlier point about boredom.

I may actually set the refugium up as a leopard wrasse tank as I now have 6 of the species in various places.

Just read your whole adventure...Hope all is still going well.. I love the dimensions and look of the ML 265...And we are planning to get one this year. Your experiences have gotten me more excited about the "Fun' ahead....Take care.

Current picture of the tank. Braving freezo-bucket.

Found a 'rescue' mag at my LFS. Really bleached, but otherwise in good shape. Been on a mission to de-hairy mushroom the tank to free up some space for SPS frags/colonies. Will leave a few and pay closer attention this time. Battle of hairy mushroom versus SPs frags goes to the 'shrooms every time. I did add a 120 gal refugium to the system to house those corals getting nipped along with my Zebra Tang. Not going to risk it getting killed by my other tangs.

Starting up an experiment with my frag tank - a lighting 'bake off'. In the red corner, metal halide; in the blue corner, LED.

Oh, and here is the new refugium ....

Note the two gorgonians. From the same parent - one that was isolated the second in with my dwarf angels.

Making the switch to Radion Gen4 Pro lights - replacing the reefbreeders photon pair. Will still run the kessils. Also, getting bored with the tank; thinking about upgrading. Getting quotes on a 425.

I'm out of space. What was a nice, open aquascape ...... is now not. I don't have a ton of family room space, so I'm thinking going an extra foot to 96" and 36" front to back. Would stick with the 30" height. Calculator says around 425.

In an attempt to quieten the voices whispering 'go bigger', 'vlamingi tang', 'looks crowded', 'vlamingi tang' ..... oh, wait, those were my kids  Saw the ETM Gen4 Pro Radions at one of my LFS and decided to just get better lights. Out with the Reefbreeders Photons (which gave yeomen service BTW); in with Gen4 pro triplets. I've little illusions that they'll grow corals any better, but they certainly look better and perhaps will color up a few of my SPS that have been looking a little colorless. They also dim down better than any other LED fixture I have seen, and though my fish probably don't care, they should ... it's cool.

Lights didn't help. Looking at ordering my first acrylic tank, nominally a 96" 400 gallon. May be the end of this build thread and the start of another.
