Ken Nedimyer started the company Sea Life Inc 25 years ago. He practices sustainable hand collection of livestock. He has a great supply of gorgs, rics, and sponges.

In the last couple of years, his daughter and son-in-law took over the business. Ken then focused his attention and started the Coral Restoration Foundation that worked on replanting the lost Florida reefs that had been bleached out. He has been featured in Coral Magazine several times and was named a CNN Hero in 2012 for his role in restoring the environment. He is almost single handidly bringing back the reefs to Florida.

I feel that as a club, (if there is extra money) we should do our part and adopt a coral.

If there is no money for this, I urge people to buy from Sea Life Inc since the proceeds help to fund the CRF.

I have bought from them many times, loved the 14.95 shipping on rics, and feel while they are not the biggest and flashiest company, but their impact on what we all love is inspirational.

(I am not associated with them at all, I just love their company and philosophy)

Just wanted to see what other people thought about this.

Just a heads up on the rics. the pictures are taken under sun light, so they do tend to look a little different than in your tank.

but, with 14.95 shipping and I have always had a free ric thrown in, well worth it

Mtc has actually done a group buy from this website before. Everyone's order came with freebies/multiples. I would definitely be interested, also interested in another group buy

Just checked out their website, prices seem very good and some nice pieces. thanks for posting will be ordering from them soon.

so " adopt " meaning reproduce in our aquarium and give it back to try to repoulate the reef , or just buy from them ? whats the interest intended for adopting florida rics ?

No it's like when you buy a star your really just helping out but they tell you what coral you payed for and it's yours for a year. The coral is just Peices of wild coral they frag tue to a string and let hang on the ocean till its big enough to replant in the reef

But every time you buy something from that company they donate a percent to the corals so ethere way helps the reef a little bit more :)

reefir- In this case, people can symbolically "adopt" a coral frag that will be that is off of a Florida mother colony, that will be replanted in waters where the original corals have died off. He is focusing on acropora and straghorn corals that are more resistant to bleaching. It is a nonprofit corporation that relies on volunteers and donations.

The adoption has nothing to do with rics, they just sell them.

I just felt that many of us talk about not depleting the oceans resources and propagating to help relieve that pressure, but this is a chance to put our money into action and directly help the Florida reefs.

Thanks for the explination , sounds like a good thing . I am not a club member but I would donate and support their process.

They also take pictures of your frag for you as it grows and you get to see how its dong.
