I'd really like to see how u guys have your sumps and other equipment set up. It's rather challenging trying to figure out a good set up for my 50 cube and just would like to see some pics.

I would too.. I am setting up a 18x18x18 cube and built a 16x16x14 sump. Now need to figure out how to divide the sump.

I have a 33 cube, the sump that I had (( from my 29 )) wouldn't fit in the stand that came with the tank. So I bought a stand for a 29, and placed the sump in there.

The tank is different now, but here is a picture of the tank and sump stand.

yes, it is a challenge to fit all the stuff inside a cube tank stand.
I have a 24x24, and used a sump that takes up half that (24x12).
the rest I have a closed loop pump, a kalk reactor, a media reactor and a controller. I was initially planning on sticking in the top off water container in there but that would need a custom narrow and tall container.

I can tell you if you can configure your stand like d2mini where at least 2 sides will open, will make your maintenance life easier. mine doesn't, and I barely have enough clearance to get the skimmer cup out. and if I need to take the skimmer out, I have to drain the sump and take the whole sump out. I have seen some people cut out a notch on their sump so they can get the skimmer out without moving the sump.

Interesting topic as I'm going through this now. I'm thinking the easiest way to buy me space is to oversize the stand.

I can't find the link now, but the slickest and most practical setup I have seen on a cube is sump is another (shorter) cube, same footprint as the display tank, just shorter, then above it is a shallow frag tank (same footprint also, yes the frag tank is inside the cabinet with T5 lighting!) that is using the same sump. and the cabinet/stand can open on three sides. I have to search for this. I think I pm'ed the person and he said the frag tank and the cabinet are custom built.

I actually ordered the Cadlights 50 (should be here next week) which comes with a pretty nice looking stand so the oversize idea isn't an option on my end. My cheapest way out is I guess using a 24" glass tank 20 gallons or so and put in my own baffles. Although cheapest is very entertaining I think a custom acrylic sump of just about the same dimesions as stated above with a shorter height would probably be best as I could surely use up every inch of space. I just really can't justify spending hundreds of dollars on a sump. I think I would rather spend the money elsewhere on the tank.

In the meantime keep the ideas and pics coming people.

I currently have my sump in a separate stand. I cover it with a thin pvc frame wrapped in cloth. We are moving in a few months and the new stand will be a 60" stand which will house everything and have the tank on the end of it. (80-20 extruded aluminum stand topped with marble, and skinned with thin wood)
