Cube-like reboot

I rarely post here, but thought I'd share a reboot of my system. After getting hit with AEFW, I took frags of what I wanted to keep and built a new setup. This is a 40x30x22 tank that will be lit with 2 x 400w Radium.

Loaded the rock last night, I'll finish filling today.

Here's a pic this morning, tomorrow it will be a reef :)

Here is 24 hours in, everyone looking reasonably happy. Frags all still have tissue and color, so fingers crossed.

Sorry, Canada :) Everything went to a new home, minus a frag of each. Kinda sad, but exciting at the same time.

Good choice in lighting ;) Keep the pics coming.

Ya, I switched to 6 x AI Sol Blue for a year, not bad, but left a bit to be desired. Upgraded to an ATI 8 bulb fixture, better, but too flat for my taste. Went back to Radiums, I'd used those for 12 years previously, and missed them a lot. Glad to be back under them. Be more glad when I can move this tank into it's forever home and hook my chiller up -lol

Gotcha, hopefully you will be on here more and update this more often, I would love to watch this grow out.

Ya, I'm hoping for TOTM one day LOL

I post more on a Canadian board, but will keep this thread updated with growth pics. Assuming that fully loading 100g with all my livestock in one shot doesn't wipe me out by the end of the week

Quick update. Sorry, nothing to take pics of yet :) No NH3 buildup, all fish and coral are fine, so my "insta-reef" filtration plan worked out well. On top of the almost live rock, I used 2.5 large aquaclear foam filter blocks from mature systems. This has been enough to handle the sudden load in a new tank. I'll do a 50% water change on the weekend just for fun.

Update: I got the tank moved into it's forever home, right next to the much needed chiller lines :) Move went reasonably well, although I dropped my Emperor on his head. He got over it in a few hours.
Apex wouldn't fire up, so it's gone off for repairs.

But the basics are running, corals are keeping some color and the fish are all fine. Instareef plan worked out well, no NH3 at all, and everything made the transition without issue.

Here's a not great pic of the full setup, please excuse the wires on the left :)

Wow....Brad, it looks great. I love that Emperor. I can't believe you got one to behave well enough to have him in your mixed tank. Does he pick much?

Thanks Darryl! No, he doesn't actually pick at all. I have a clam and the 2 LPS, plus he lived with all the SPS in the 180.

I have read that angels are much more likely to be fine in a mature system where there picking behaviour (which often doesnt even get noticed for some reason) is spread amounst many mature and healthy colonies but they are often more destructive in a young reef. Did you always have the emporer in a mature tank?

Hope its not problematic for you. I have had problems with 3 different types of pygmy angles in the past.

Anyway it looks great Brad and Im definitely jealous of that angel and the new tank......

Ya, he was always in the 180, but even in this tank, he doesn't pick at all. I never saw him nip anything in the full system either, and I did watch for it. I previously had a Queen, and that thing tried to eat the whole tank in one sitting!

No need to be jealous, you just need to set up another tank :) I could even send you back a couple frags to get you started -lol

Ironically, one of the fastest growing is the PM. It's about 10 times the size of the frag you sent!
Overall, this will be an uphill climb, I'm not used to having an empty tank. And the colors have definitely taken a hit with the move, but I guess that's to be expected. Hopefully by the end of summer things start taking off again. Slightly worried I might have too much light, if there's such a thing :)

What.....you must have that purple monster under some high light. I had it pretty low and it although it was a nice deep purple it definitely didnt grow fast. Great to hear. Pictures?

Wow, forgot I had this thread going.

Lots has changed, replaced all the dry rock with Walt Smith Fiji, lost fish, replaced fish. Essentially a complete reset of my complete reset. PIA for sure. Lots of stumbling before going back to my tried and true methods and overall I'm happy with where things are now. I'll try to update more than every 6 months lol

Recent fish shot that happens to show the tank as well.
