Bad news, I decided to dip the corals for the last time.....but slower and more patiently. As I started, I just found clusters of eggs on one coral, the same one that had them a month ago....

Not sure how I wanna proceed . Risk it and stop dipping? or continue for another bloody month? Just so p$%$% off!!!

It might be restricted to that coral. I wouldnt stop dipping. This is exactly the reason I asked about eggs...I know these buggers too well having dealt with them twice in the past! :headwalls: :angryfire:

Scrape ALL eggs off. They usually lay eggs on dead areas/rock areas VERY close to the flesh of the acro, so you can scrape off and then apply superglue gel over these areas.

Killing off the eggs means you basically stop another small population appearing. Hence why I asked about eggs.

The egss could have been there around 2 weeks at least...so the adult(s) that laid the you might have killed already.

I know its a massive kick to the stomach to find the damn eggs...but CONTINUE dipping for another month. If there arent any other eggs then you will kill off all the worms (hatched ones) and hopefully be free of them.

As long as the acros are NOT dying then keep up the dipping...browned out is ok, as long as they arent dying.

Yeah Sahin, it felt like a real kick in the nuts

I found 'em on one coral so far, and I immediately gave away that piece to a fellow reefer who's starting out with SPS. I have frags of it. Cleaned and dipped it before I gave it away. I guess I wasn't thorough enough with my dipping .

The sighting of eggs made me realize that I have no idea on the current status of AEFW population in my tank. It seems that I'm gonna have to keep dipping for another month, and that's what I'll have to do .

Bello, there is nothing more nerve wracking, frustrating and just generally life sucking than when your reef is going in the wrong direction.... it totally SUCKS!!!!
I feel for you!
We put SO much time and energy, not to mention money..... and hope into our little creations so that we can get that deep sense of satisfaction from coming home after work and getting that first look at the tank... bright rippling lights, deep colours, polyps extended and new growth... there's nothing better than that anticipation of seeing super health and vibrance in your captive reef world...
What you are doing now is crap work with no joy and having done exactly what you are doing, myself, i know how lousy you feel....
BUT!!!! you are almost there! I'm glad you'll do another round of dipping because you sure as hell don't want to go through this again...
By summer (or i guess in your case, by winter..) this black hole will be behind you and it will, once again, be all sweetness and light in your tank!
Hang in there.. try not to think about each individual coral and how they were growing or where they were placed... just think of the whole bunch as a job to get done and once this job is done, its all fun again..
In two months, I expect, once again, to see crazy photos of super healthy corals coming out of this thread!

These AEFW's are way more sneaky than you, Biggles or Kevin (the Koala) can ever be. :uzi:

However, dipping for even two months can completely rid of AEFW's in a system. But you have to be diligent and determined.

That's exactly how I feel! I can remember how certain corals looked so damn awesome, and now it's just whatever.....I'm itching to try and get them back to their former glory, where I can just stare and feel glad about a job well done. Really don't even look at my tank as much these days.

Truth be told, if I continue dipping for another month, it'll be 2 months before I can even begin to restore the corals, since I'll going on a holiday shortly after dipping is complete, and can't risk making any major changes without giving them the time for observation. Having a hard time with patience there.

I've been having terrible headaches the past couple of days...I drove halfway to one of my favorite LFS today to maybe buy an acro or something...but turned back because I felt sick driving and couldnt take the headache.

Dipping for AEFW's + FLU is a tough combo...I think Biggles needs to send Kevin Koala to do the famous Koala Dipping.

Sorry to hear about the setback Bello, i'm still having bloody issues and removed that sick blue stag today as it continued to STN along with the other piece of the same stag, the fluoro pieces are going the same way - seems the ride is getting rough for both of us mate lol :hammer: Something is wrong that i'm not detecting so i went to the LFS for NSW to do some 20% water changes, unaware that my LFS had received new corals on Thursday some of which were on their FB page.

lol, Koala dipping would be so much easier . Hope you're feeling better. The flu's mostly gone, but I haven't dipped yet. Plan to do it during the week, slower but more deliberate with minute checking, let's see how that goes

Welcome back, biggles . That's a bloody nice score, Ice-fire Echinata eh?! You do know that you now HAVE to update your thread, you've been slacking, lol. What else did you pickup? I suspect the acan flubber would do pretty well in your tank, more so than the other flubber.

Sorry to hear about your troubles as well. I'm just wondering if its just some sort of chemical contamination? I had that problem for 2 years, and it was very difficult to detect. Large water changes helped eventually, but restarting the system to what I have today, was the best choice. AEFW's are bad, but not remotely close to the possibility of having a contaminant in the system. I really hope that, that is not the case

Just hoping that we recover from this mess. Would hate to see your aculeus go, I love that piece, and you were supposed to be holding onto it for me

atleast you didn't go to reefworks and then on the way home someone lose control of their vehicle on the m3 at 70 mph hit the back of my vehicle.

i drive a 70k brand new m3 one of 100 made, its my dream car, and has been since i was 12... to nearly have it totalled collecting corals and nearly die at the same time ;( puts everything into perspective!

sorry to hear of your continued AEFW problems. At least I found my source, my favorite LFS seems to have them in their SPS tank. I bought a few corals that had just come in from a supplier 2 days earlier and discovered bite marks within a week. Depressing, and this was in my acro free tank where I just wanted to grow a few pieces while my main tank sat acroless.

I dipped in Bayer but either made a mistake with the dose or missed some eggs.

yeah the rain was horrific, puddles, hail, wind everything. It took me about 1h30 to get to bromley the traffic was bad, but yeah i live in Camberley, my nearest 2 shops are reef dreams and MA Windsor, but i'm always around at diff shops

AAC is my fav simply because of Paul, but I haven't been a while, i might pop up there not this sunday, but the one after, then to h2o and then around to the reef shack for an all dayer .

I got some sick stuff from clayton, an awesome purple efflo, its a bit brown at the moment, but i'm sure it`ll grab some fluorescence soon, i got a smamll peice of a blue turaki, and blue tenius and i got a really sick green/pink abro/robusta, i think its a robusta, but i'm not sure.

Still wasn't worth the incident that happened afterwards
